March is just over a week away and with it will come madness, St. Patricks Day, and the joy of warmer weather. But for now we are all trapped in the worst February has to offer. This week has been a harsh punishment to the bluegrass state courtesy of old man winter with nearly a foot of snow blanketing the state, record colds, and now ice via Winter Storm Pandora. Look, it was fun being out of school and work in the white wonderland on Monday. But now that we are heading towards a week of living out the plot of Frozen it is time for winter to move on. The first day of spring is one month away. It can't get here soon enough. Stay safe and warm everybody. On to the news and views:

Cats Get Some New Threads

Once again the Cats will be one of Nike's featured teams on Saturday as they sport a new Hyper Elite jersey for tomorrow's game. The team will be unleashing their inner frat bro as they rock a vest inside the halls of Rupp Arena. It's a puzzling choice to be sure but with these record cold temps the vest could provide the Cats with some extra heat early. At least that's what I'm telling myself to rationalize a vest on the basketball court. Since dominating in the platinum jersey's back in 2012 the Cats have had no luck when wearing the Hyper Elite jersey's. Last year they wore a similar white jersey when they lost at home to Florida. Two years ago they wore the Hyper Elite jersey's to Tennessee for a thrashing in their first game without Nerlens. Hopefully tomorrow the team breaks the Hyper Elite curse and rolls to 27-0.

Kentucky Opens As a 26-point Favorite

The Cats should be in good shape to break the Hyper Elite curse and give ole Bruce Pearl the welcome he deserves as they opened as 26 point favorites over the Auburn Tigers. Auburn ranks 11th in the SEC but they have already picked up some nice February wins over LSU and Georgia. Pearl hasn't given his team much hope all week and spoke of the underdog role today, “Those fans will appreciate the smallest team in the league and probably one of the smallest teams in big five conferences going up against the largest team in perhaps history of college basketball.” Time to crush them for Coach Barbee.

Karlito's Way

One of the more random updates from this fun season was the introduction of Karl-Anthony Towns' imaginary punching bag Karlito. Before practice today at the Joe Craft Center, Tyler Ulis dished that Karl Towns talks to a little man on his shoulder named “Karlito.” “He’s such a great kid, he doesn’t want to talk back to you, so he turns his head to the side and talks to that little man on his shoulder,” Coach Cal said of Towns’ imaginary friend. “After he started doing it, I said, ‘Who are you talking to?’ And I can’t remember which of the coaches gave it the nickname: ‘He’s talking to Karlito.'” Towns said, “I do talk to myself, I don’t know why, but I have some good conversations with myself.” Big KAT has been playing like a man possessed as of late so I say let him talk to anyone he well pleases.

Tony Delk Day!

Tony Delk adding his name to the rafters of Rupp Arena is a move that is long overdue.  If you missed it earlier this week, check out Mrs. Tyler's excellent guide to the man himself. Delk's jersey celebration should be the loudest part of an otherwise mundane beatdown of Auburn. We'll be back in the morning for all the coverage to get you ready for the game. Until then stay safe and stay warm Big Blue Nation! Winter storm Pandora is no joke.
