Ten Awesome Summer Songs

The start of summer means the dawn of fun, funky beats.  Other than Christmas music, summer songs are the best seasonal songs.  Allow me to share a few with you on this lovely evening.

Mungo Jerry: In The Summertime

Any and every summer song list starts with Mungo Jerry.  Spitting into a jug, pickin’ and grinnin’, nothing’s better.

Troop 41: Do the John Wall

This one is for all of those who are ready to type, “THIS IS A SPORTS SITE!” in the comments section, and because watching 150 people flex to this song in the Bahamas is one of my favorite memories.

Hanson: MMMBop

Don’t you DARE call Hanson a one hit wonder.  The brothers had a couple of classics, like If OnlyWeird and Where’s the Love.

Don Henley: The Boys of Summer

Because no matter how much Matt hates on The Eagles, Don Henley is a Great American.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince: Summertime

During Will Smith’s prime he put out his best work.  This song deserves five extra gold stars because it was s good, it became the Saved By The Bell theme song when the crew spent the summer in Hawaii (Kelly Kapowski > Stacey Carosi).

Jimmy Buffett: A Pirate Looks at 40

Drew Franklin’s finest recommendation.

Florida Georgia Line & Nelly: Cruise Remix

Not a Drew Franklin recommendation.

LFO: Summer Girls

A trio of beautiful lyricists, where else can you find lines like “New kids on the block had a bunch of hit | Chinese food makes me sick” or “You’re the best girl that I ever did see | the great Larry Bird Jersey 33 | When you take a sip you buzz like a hornet | Billy Shakespeare wrote a whole bunch of sonnets.”

Zac Brown Band: Knee Deep

It really doesn’t matter which song you pick, Zac Brown Band is awesome.  For those that were at Red Rocks for this show, I hate you.  Sorry, you don’t deserve that hate.  It’s just a little envy because I challenge you to find a cooler music venue in the world than Red Rocks.

Kenny Loggins: Danger Zone

Listening to this song is a must whenever you’re playing volleyball with your bros.

Top Gun high five

You shouldn’t be allowed to write about pop culture after this.
