After a strong season that saw the UK men’s golf team make their first NCAA tournament in 10 years, the Cats’ run has ended with a T-18th finish at Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kansas. The duo of seniors studs, Ben Stow and Stephen Powers, that have been UK’s rock for the past two years paced the Cats once again, as they both finished in 29th place individually at even par for the 54-hole tournament.
The Cats totaled 17-over for the weekend, which tied them for 18th place with Arkansas of the 30 qualifying teams. The top-8 teams go on to make the match play portion of the tournament. Stanford won the tournament by going 13-under for the weekend, and the Cardinal also had the top individual Cameron Wilson, who shot 6-under for the three days.
It was a good season for Kentucky and honestly it was exactly the season that most expected. Now the Cats must bid farewell to four seniors, including three in their starting lineup (Stow, Powers and Cody Martin). So next season might be a bit of a rebuilding period for the Cats but we’ll have to wait and see.
