By now, you should be familiar with Wenyen Gabriel’s story. The former Cat was born in North Sudan and his family fled to Cairo when he was a baby to escape the civil war. After three years in a refugee camp, they were relocated to Manchester, New Hampshire through the United Nations’ resettlement program. Many articles have been written about Wenyen’s story (including one by yours truly in 2016), but today, Wenyen’s taking the mic to tell it himself.
In a video feature for the Sacramento Kings, Wenyen talks about his background and how he came to love the game of basketball. De’Aaron Fox, Wenyen’s teammate at Kentucky and in Sacramento, also makes an appearance to talk about Wenyen’s work ethic, which has helped him earn a two-way contract with the Kings.
We’re all cheering for you, Wenyen.
