Wall and the Wizards take Game 1 in Indianapolis

SB Nation

John Wall and the Washington Wizards stole home court away from the East’s top-seed in Indianapolis tonight despite a late barrage of three-pointers by the Pacers in the final minute. The Wizards took Game 1, 102-96, behind 13 points, nine assists and five rebounds from Wall. Trevor Ariza and Bradley Beal combined for 57 to lead the Wizards in scoring.

Wall also made these two nasty blocks to set the tone early in the game:

I love watching teams from Indiana lose, even if they are coached by a UK guy.

    Wizards in 6. I hope.

That guy only took 4 steps before Wall sent his shot into the bleachers. Glad to see JW healthy and at the top of his game!!

In the near future it will be Wall vs. Ant in the NBA finals.

I’ve been “fortunate” enough to compromise with my wife on summer vacations to Vegas, coinciding with the NBA Summer League. It is loads of fun. Anyway, I thought two summers ago that Bradley Beal, a huge lightening quick two guard, would be a perfect complement to Wall. He scored 25 tonight, and offers Mr. Wall a ton of help on the perimeter. They will advance past the Pacers.

It takes a few views. But dear god the windups on both of those blocks. What a sick player,

The impressive thing about John Wall is that he is playing as a true point. He doesn’t need to score, and only seeks to do so when it comes as a natural part of the offense. He has developed a tremendous knack of getting the ball to his shooters exactly when they are open. He’s moved away from needing the spotlight to becoming one of the best true points in the game. Another year or two, and he may just be THE best true point guard in the NBA.
