Tyler Ulis will receive the same contract as a late first rounder

We were all a little disappointed to see Tyler Ulis slip to the second round, but the Phoenix Suns are doing their best to make sure Tyler knows he’s a valued member of the franchise. According to Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic, Ulis will be given a guaranteed two-year contract that will pay him the same amount as a late first-rounder, so around $1 million to start. Normally, only first round picks get guaranteed deals.

While the Suns’ roster is guard heavy, there’s still talk they may part ways with Brandon Knight or Eric Bledsoe, or, if they choose to keep both, veteran backup Ronnie Price.

For now, it’s just good to see Tyler get the pay day he deserves.

Couldn’t be any happier for him! What 20 year old wouldn’t want to leave college after only two years and have a job guaranteed for two years with a pay of 1 million dollars a year? Even if he doesn’t work out as a NBA player (I believe he’ll have a very long career) making 2 million in only two years will give him a huge head start for the rest of his life. Much props to Tyler!

Much as I hated to see Tyler leave he probably made the right decision since I think the draft will be much stronger next year and he might not have gotten drafted another year. I too wish him much success.

i think we need a little fact check here. A whole bunch of 2nd Rounders now get guaranteed contracts. This has been the case for the last several years. 1) Foreigners et drafted in the 1st Rd and are stashed in Europe and get paid nothing by the NBA. This opens up more money under the cap for guaranteed contracts to 2nd Rounders and FA deals. 2) The salary cap just went up by 30%. There’s a TON of money for guaranteed contracts.
This is not exclusive to Ulis and it says absolutely nothing about Phoenixs commitment to him. The money is there so you spend it on your assets. It’s really that simple.

They didn’t HAVE to sign him, but they did. Quit being a dick.

This is why you see so many kids leave now even though they’re not guaranteed 1st rounders. Many of them will still get their money in the 2nd Round. It is just another reason that the current NBA system is hurting our game. Sign&Stash, Guaranteed Money in 2nd Rd, One & Done, and the DLeague are all killers of the best game on the planet, and that’s the college game. Unfortunately our own program feeds into their model and when the big boys are playing along instead of fighting against it it will only continue down the path that benefits the NBA to the detriment of the college game.

I’m reaching? And UL isn’t my school. I’m a UK alum.

You know what’s fun? When we post negative things about UL, knowing that UK has had their fair share of employees with run ins with the law, and UL fans are going to easily point all of them out with a 3sec Google search. It may be wise to not expose our own glass house.

      Uk is my alma-mater.
But I live in Louisville. Unfortunately my alma-mater has a sports fanbase where the vast majority never went to college and therefore cannot conseptualize the difference between sports and real-life.

Well, we know that the BOT at UL had many UK fans on it, including the person that was leaking info to Matt. Now Junior Bridgeman is in charge of the hiring of the new BOT. Junior will certainly be putting together an Athletics Friendly Board and I can’t imagine that being a big UK fan will be finding themselves as part of the group. You think Jurich has had power before? Just wait till he lobbies his people onto the BOT. Facilities and money for coaching is getting ready to go through the roof.

Why all the butthurt? Forde said Cal owned the draft, which is a huge deal for recruiting as was just stated. And then he simply made the true comment that owning draft day every single year doesn’t equate to National Championships. That’s a fact. Why are you all so sensitive about it?

Wait… Rick isn’t allowed to use plausible deniability but Calipari is? At UMass they were cheating on grades to keep guys eligible which is an on campus issue, had agents buying HOOKERS and jewelry and giving cash to Camby ON CAMPUS, at Memphis he had Roses brother ON THE PLANE right in front of his face, and they had players busted for PROSTITUTES, and they had players busted for starting riots, and they had players busted for drugs, and on and on and on and on and on. But now Cal is not the same guy that had banners removed at two places? I’m confused.

Look, another Pitino article, followed by awkward stalking story about eavesdropping on UL players at Foot Locker. Jeez this stuff makes UK fans look dumb. Seriously, who goes to Foot Locker since the Internet was invented?

What did he say that was incorrect? Looks like his opinion is backed up by the facts surrounding Cal’s tenure at UMass. Like it or not, before he got to UK, Cal ran two completely rogue programs in UMass & Memphis. The amount of crime, NCAA issues, legal problems, drug problems, domestic abuse problems, etc, far outweighed the norm, and outshined the winning. Just bc it doesn’t appear that he runs the same type of program at UK, shouldn’t dismiss the pathetic programs that proceeded. Even our own Matt Jones called him out before the title game at Memphis, and he was completely justified in doing so.

Every post you make disses UK and/or defends ul.

      Begone, now.
