Today on KSR: STD continues his walk, Banchero to Duke, and more

Shannon the Dude continues to power through his 50-mile walk through Lexington.

After starting from KSBar and Grille at 10 p.m., Shannon has walked over 35 miles since you went to bed, leaving him with 15 miles to go before he conquers the challenge.

Thanks to PowerStep and Studio 46, you can follow Shannon along in the home stretch in the comfort of your own home, as Studio 46 Media in Lexington has hooked him up with a camera so he can check in throughout his journey.

He’s done several check-ins already, but keep an eye on the live stream below for another around the start of KSR at 10 a.m. ET.

Shannon will be able to see your comments and answer questions live on the KSR Facebook page, along with the many updates he has already provided on his Twitter account.

Originally hoping to finish around 1 p.m. ET, it looks like he may even beat his ambitious goal.

Paolo Banchero commits to Duke

Thank goodness Shannon is providing solid entertainment on his walk; Kentucky fans needed it after 2021 five-star forward Paolo Banchero shocked the recruiting world by making a surprise commitment to Duke on Thursday afternoon.

UK’s top target in the rising senior class, the top-five prospect chose the Blue Devils over fellow finalists Arizona, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Tennessee and Washington.

Here was the announcement:

Not a single recruiting analyst in the 247Sports’ Crystal Ball or Rivals’ FutureCast picked Duke to land the five-star prospect, with all previous picks coming in favor of Washington, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The hometown Huskies were seen as the longtime favorite, followed by strong buzz in favor of the Wildcats following Banchero’s official visit to Lexington for Big Blue Madness.

More recently, though, the Volunteers picked up some buzz after Kennedy Chandler – the top-ranked point guard in the class of 2021 and Banchero’s close friend – committed to Tennessee last week.

Instead of picking a school with prior momentum, Banchero shocked everyone with an abrupt commitment to Duke on a random Thursday afternoon in the middle of summer.

It’s no shock now when Duke gets somebody like this. They’ve perfected the art of cheating, and even when it’s common knowledge in basketball circles and also tv circles they’re paying players without repercussions, it’s going to keep happening. The funny part to me is that even with all of their cheating they keep coming up short. We’ll be fine without having this kid, if this is the kind of character that he has. My only question now is does Duke ever get officially caught? I personally think there’s no way they’re gonna get caught. There’s already been so much evidence and they won’t even investigate it. The NCAA is a joke. Keep cheating and choking Duke.

I’m now convinced that when kids make surprise commitments to schools that shock recruiting experts, it’s because their decision is secured by means that they have to keep hush about.
