Unbeknownst to him, Trey Lyles was almost a victim of a serial drink-and-dasher in Washington D.C. On March 23, 21-year-old Nicholas James Cooper was arrested after trying to charge $2,220.40 worth of booze and food, including a $1,200 shot of rare whiskey, to Trey Lyles’ room at the Ritz Carlton.
From the Washington Post:
On March 23, police said, Cooper showed up at the Ritz-Carlton in the West End, where a report says he rang up a $2,200 bar bill, which included the $1,200 shot from a limited-edition bottle from the Teeling Whiskey Co. Police said in an affidavit that Cooper charged the $2,220.40 bill to the room of Trey Lyles, a forward for the Denver Nuggets. Hours earlier the team had beaten the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena.
Authorities confronted Cooper in the lobby, where a bottle of booze fell out of his pocket as he was tackled to the ground. Cooper had been on a drinking-and-dashing spree across D.C., ringing up bills at several major hotels across the city and leaving before the check arrived. No word on whether he chose a random hotel room number for the bill at the Ritz Carlton or if he specifically targeted Trey Lyles.
