Shaq’s Advice to AD? Stay in NOLA, Make LeBron Come to Him

If you’re a big man in the NBA and Shaquille O’Neal decides to give you a nugget of advice, it’s probably wise to at least hear him out. The Laker legend understands the environment surrounding the LA franchise, and he actually advised that Anthony Davis stay in New Orleans and keep getting paid as opposed to teaming up with LeBron James in the Staples Center.

Shaq does make a sage point: the SoCal cost of living is exorbitantly high, with median cost of housing being roughly 3-4 times higher in LA than New Orleans. Figures like these are why elite athletes shouldn’t just sign the dotted line below the highest dollar amount.

Still, nitpicking cost of living factors is definitely less of a priority when you’ve got over $200 million coming your way. AD should focus on winning. But he’s definitely already considered the likelihood of LeBron ever becoming a Pelican, which is near zero. If Davis wants to team up with one of the all-time greats, he’s gonna have to change locales.

$31 million is still a big chunk of change to say goodbye to. I don’t envy AD’s decision there.

Who am I kidding, yes I do.

This is the same Shaq who left the team that drafted him to join Kobe in LA, then left that team to join Dwyane Wade in Miami, then left that team to join Steve Nash in Phoenix, then left that team to join Lebron in Cleveland, then left that team to join Garnett, Pierce, Ray Allen, and Rondo in Boston?

That Shaq? Yeah, he’s the last to give this advice to AD.

So he’s lived though enough mistakes to know what he’s talking about. I’m sure thats what you meant to say.

Insanity – the state of being seriously mentally ill; madness.

      I don’t think that fits.

We all understand that Shaq is from Louisiana, don’t we?

That cynicism aside, Boogie & KD are free agents this offseason and the Knicks are buying. Three positionless 7 footers, only one of them semi-slow and Kevin Knox would only need a PG and a stopper to put all of the right pieces together. MKG is available in a year, Liggins now. Wall’s locked up but Washington may be willing to trade….

If AD’s pappy thinks the Celtics treat players poorly, the Knicks are on a different planet.

Except he’s not from Louisiana. Grew up here n New Jersey and Texas. And he didn’t even stay at LSU for four years. And Baton Rouge is a good distance from New Orleans. His only real tie to the state was then head coach, Dale Brown.
