Shai Gilgeous-Alexander set to make first NBA start tonight

Former Kentucky great Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will make his first NBA start tonight for the Los Angeles Clippers.

The NBA season is 82 games. It’s long and this will be the first of many starts for SGA, but it comes in a semi-important game despite the long NBA season. The Clippers host the Timberwolves and Minnesota desperately needs a win. Karl-Anthony Towns has surprisingly been inconsistent and Jimmy Butler remains a huge distraction, so things aren’t great in Minnesota.

However, LAC is quietly off to a nice start and has a better record than the other team in Los Angeles. You know, the one that may or may not have the best player in the history of basketball on it.

Regardless, it’s a great opportunity for SGA and we know he’s going to rock out. He’s averaged 8.2 points, 3.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game in his first nine professional games.

I think it’s a stretch to call SGA a UK great. He was one of the top performers on one of Calipari’s worst teams. That does not equate to greatness.
