Isaiah Briscoe will finally live out his NBA dream this season after signing a contract with the Orlando Magic, over a year removed from his final season of college basketball at Kentucky. The deal is worth $6 million over four years with a starting salary of $838,464 in 2018-19.
In a new “Road To the Magic” video, the people behind the decision to acquire Briscoe explain what they saw in their new backup point guard.
Jeff Weltman, the President of Basketball Operations, said, “We always tracked him. We always liked him, kept him in our fold and brought him into summer league; and every hurdle we presented to him, he cleared. Our coaches like the way he plays and we’re excited to kind of bring him into our group, signed him to a contract, and we look at him as a two-player who can guard multiple positions.”
Magic head coach Steve Clifford added, “I think he can play the one, he can play the two, and he can guard both positions. He’s tough and he can get the ball going to the basket. You know playing inside-out is such a big part of creating an open three-point shot and he has the ability to drive the ball into the paint and both finish and pass.”
