Step one of the rehabilitation process is complete.

Former Kentucky Wildcat and current star point guard for the Denver Nuggets, Jamal Murray, underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair his torn left ACL, the team announced. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, who is the Head Team Physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Rams.

Murray initially injured the knee last week in a matchup against the Golden State Warriors in which he suffered a non-contact injury while driving to the basket with just 50 seconds left in regulation and his team down seven. He would limp off the court and was soon diagnosed with a torn ACL.

It was terrible timing, too, considering Murray was finally starting to stabilize his potential superstar status as the Nuggets co-star alongside MVP candidate Nikola Jokic. The 24-year old former Wildcat had been averaging career-highs in scoring (21.2 points per game), field goal percentage (47.7), and 3-point percentage (40.8) on a Nuggets team that is currently 37-20 and the fourth-best team in the Western Conference.
