Mychal Mulder Hits 8 Threes in G League Game

The Cats in the NBA have taken over the league to start the 2019-20 season, but a few other former Kentucky Wildcats are making statements in the NBA’s G League, specifically Mychal Mulder.

Mulder, who plays for the Miami Heat G League affiliate the Sioux Falls Skyforce, exploded for 30 points on 8-9 shooting from deep on Saturday night against the Agua Caliente Clippers. The former ‘Cat finished with a shooting clip of 15-19 from the field while also adding seven rebounds and five assists. Mulder’s eight three-pointers were a career-high.

It wasn’t the first time this season Mulder has had a big game, either.

Through five G League outings thus far, Mulder is second on his team in scoring at nearly 22 points per game. He’s shooting 48.8 percent from the field and an insanely efficient 42.9 percent from three on over 10 attempts per game. Mulder has registered at least 20 points in four of his five games this season.

But he isn’t the only player from Lexington making strides in the developmental league.

Mulder’s Skyforce teammate, Marcus Lee, is putting up numbers, too. Lee is averaging 11.8 points, 6,2 rebounds, and one block per game while shooting 80 percent from the field. He’s still throwing down lobs like he’s back in a Kentucky jersey.

While we’re at it, Keldon Johnson has also been impressive during his G League run. After being drafted 29th in the 2019 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs, Johnson has been moved to the G League in order to earn some playing time before he makes the leap to the big leagues. In four games thus far, Johnson has been pouring it on.

The rookie is averaging 22.8 points, six rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for the Austin Spurs in four appearances. He’s put up at least 20 points in all four games with a personal best of 27.

The ‘Cats are getting it done at all levels.

Where are you getting this 15/29 total from the field at? Am I reading your article wrong? If he hit 8 three pointers (24 points), how could he hit 7 more shots on top of that and only finish with 30 total points?

In their official post, the team said he was 11 for 15 from the field, which equals 30 points. I can’t gather where you even got the 15/19 star from based on the information provided.

Math isn’t my strong point, so maybe I’m just misunderstanding your post?

The common denominator? These two teams and their systems are regarded as two of the best in the NBA in player development.

Too bad Mulder couldn’t have hit 1 three against UNC in the elite eight.
