More details on DeAndre Liggins’ arrest

liggins-thunder

Over the weekend, former Cat DeAndre Liggins was accused of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse in the presence of a minor, and now, more details are out. Liggins has not been charged, but according to a probable cause affidavit, he punched his girlfriend, kicked her and dropped a fan and an XBox on her head. From The Oklahoman:

Jasmine Horton, who describes herself as Liggins’ girlfriend, said Liggins hit her in the head with his hand and then punched her in the head when she fell on the ground, according to the affidavit filed in Oklahoma County District Court. The couple’s 2-year-old son was in the room during the incident at their home, 2309 NW 180, she told police.

Horton locked herself in a bedroom before Liggins reportedly kicked in the door, pushed her down, dropped a fan on her, stomped her with his foot and dropped an Xbox on her head, according to the affidavit.

Liggins was booked into jail on Saturday and released on $8,000 bail. Officials for the Oklahoma City Thunder say they’re waiting to hear more details on the incident before deciding whether or not to invite Liggins back to training camp. He’s currently on a non-guaranteed contract for the upcoming season.

Do we just assume he is guilty or do we wait to see if the stories are really true?

Now when they say xbox, surely they can’t be talking about just the original xbox. I would assume its an xbox 360, but that’s just how lazy reporting has gotten lately.

The origional Xbox would have killed her. Horrible story though.

Terrence, DeAndre – both should never be allowed to participate in UK activities again. Any physical contact with a woman (especially with child nearby) is inexcusable. Dumb A$$

Idiot, you don’t hit a woman ever. He really set a great example for his 2 year old son too.

This is very sad. I remember reading the Yahoo story (http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=jn-king_liggins_driven_by_memory_of_late_brother_040111) about him during the F4 run in 2011 and felt very sorry for him. Too bad he has gone down this road

5, forget about the XBOX.. Dropping the fan on her could have killed her. The Thunder have some really LARGE fans. I hope it wasn’t that one guy who paints his face and has a mullet. He’s gotta be 300 pounds.

These charges will probably not be accepted. I’m sure there was an altercation, but the details seem a little far fetched. Not being insensitive, but female victims usually embellish.

Man KSR, after the comments on this post you guys HAVE to have some sort of registration and banning of users. Regardless of whether or not these comments were legit UK fans or trolls, this is too far. What happens if Jerry Tipton sees them and quotes them in an article? I’m all for making fun of Matt’s hair and complete arrogance, but making fun of this situation is deplorable.

Alright, obviously there’s nothing directly humorous about the story itself, but jokes can be made, and it doesn’t make you horrible. Daniel Tosh has a job making much worse jokes. Loosen up.

If this is true and it sounds as if it is, it is very sad. There is no excusing this kind of behavior. Unfortunately so many of these talented kids grow up in an environment which does not teach them how to resolve conflict nor how to handle stardom or money. We would be doing them all a service by giving them classes in conflict resolution, finance, positive life skills and let’s just throw in english grammer. They get to college and are thrown in a world that they are ill equipped to handle and then the NBA. His US career is over if this is true and it certainly does not refect well on UK. And btw, unless I am wrong, calipari did not recruit but inherited him.
