LeBron James is giving Anthony Davis his jersey number

LeBron James is doing his best to make Anthony Davis feel at home in Los Angeles. According to Yahoo Sports, James is giving Davis his jersey number, No. 23, to wear with the Lakers.

On the flip side, Davis made his own goodwill gesture, waiving his $4 million trade kicker to give the franchise more cap space to sign more players. (It’s like he’s getting paid the same amount for his role in Space Jam 2 or something.) Davis’ trade to the Lakers is expected to be finalized by July 6.

What number will James wear now? He’s sported the No. 23 with the Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He wore the No. 6 with the Miami Heat, which is still available. Nos. 8, 13, 22, 24, 25, 32, 33, 34, 42, 44 and 52 are all retired.

Anthony waiving his trade kicker is a bad sign for Rich Paul. On the number side he’ll wear his Team USA #8.

First off, how is that a bad sign for rich Paul? Other than a little less money? Also, LeBron has never worn 8 with anyone much less team USA. That’s 2 strikes for you on dumb comments…

I’m pretty sure LeBron wore 6 with team USA… same number he wore for Miami Heat. Plus did you not read the story. #8 is retired so it’s not available.

Without looking, I will say Kobe, Wilt, Elgin, Kobe, Goodrich, Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Worthy, West and Wilkes.

Their priority needs to be building a solid backcourt that can defend and stretch the floor, including at least one primary ball handler, with the cap space they have left. If they can do that, the NBA will be all theirs imo. It’s going to be very interesting to see who else they add.

    Yes: MJ was awesome.

    Yet: So is LeBron.

Point: I can’t see MJ ever giving up his number to any incoming player. Which tells me he wants to win with AD – the designate.

Bottom line: Kudos to King James. Go forth and succeed AD & The Lakers!
