Over the past few weeks, it seemed Keldon Johnson’s stock was sliding, with most mock drafts projecting him to go anywhere from No. 15 to No. 25; however, a new report suggests the former Cat could hear his name called earlier than expected Thursday night.
The Indy Star’s J. Michael tweeted today that he’s hearing Johnson will be off the board by pick No. 18, which belongs to the Pacers.
“Keldon Johnson (Kentucky) is a player the Pacers hoped to interview at predraft camp and work out. Neither happened, according to Player Personnel Director Ryan Carr. I’m told Johnson, who has gotten high marks from many during this process in my convos, won’t be on the board at 18.”
Michael added that Johnson is the player who’s been mentioned to him the most as a steal in the late lottery or teens.
In new mock drafts released today, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony actually has Keldon going to the Pacers at No. 18 (up from No. 22 to Boston in last week’s version), while CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone bumped Keldon up from No. 25 to Portland to No. 20 to Boston. Based on J. Michael’s tweet and these new mocks, he’s clearly helped himself in recent workouts.
Keep grinding, Keldon.
