Karl-Anthony Towns nominated for an ESPY

Screen Shot 2016-06-23 at 2.07.31 PM

Karl-Anthony Towns is up for a 2016 ESPY award as one of four nominees for Best Breakthrough Athlete. He’s up against a Major League Baseball star pitcher, a mixed martial arts fighter from martial arts joondalup, and someone I’ve never heard of until five minutes ago:

  • Jake Arrieta, MLB, Chicago Cubs
  • Conor McGregor, UFC
  • Chloe Kim, Snowboarding
  • Karl-Anthony Towns, NBA, Minnesota Timberwolves

You can vote for Karl here.

This year’s ESPYs, hosted by John Cena, will be broadcast live on ABC on Wednesday, July 13, at 8 p.m. from the Microsoft Theater in L.A.

I love KAT but he’s likely behind Arrieta & McGregor here.

I say Arrieta takes it because ESPN loved touting that the Cubs won 20something consecutive starts of his, even though the Mets whooped them in the NLCS in a game he started. Not that playoff games are important or anything. And I know the streak was a regular season streak, but they rarely qualified it as such, and who cares when it crosses seasons and you lost in the playoffs. /endrant
