Julius Randle isn’t afraid of the limelight at NBA Rookie Photo Shoot Day

Could the Los Angeles Lakers have chosen a better fit for one of the most all-time decorated franchises in professional sports with the No. 7 pick in this summer’s NBA Draft? In short, no– they could not.

Today, the NBA is hosting its annual Rookie Photo Shoot Day in New York, where Julius Randle has made it clear that he will not shy away from any Hollywood lights as his career takes off with the 16-time world champion Lakers. As noted in today’s Sunday Morning Links, Randle is also one of at least 40 rookies who will be participating in an open-ended Q&A with fans on, where Julius has already taken the time to answer five lucky fans:

Question: Are you nervous at all to play with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers?

Julius RandleNo! I am excited about the competition with these guys and learning a lot at a young stage of my career.

QLoved seeing your crossover in the summer league. What was one thing you saw in Vegas that was a big difference from college ball?

JRThe spacing is a lot better in the NBA than in college.

QWhat would you guess your [NBA 2K15] rating to be?

JR: 99

QWho do you think will win Rookie of the Year?

JRShaking my head… Who do you think it will be. You think I’m going to say anyone but myself.

Q: How does it feel going to play with your childhood hero, Kobe Bryant? Have you spoke with him yet? If so, what advice has he given you?

JRYeah I’ve spoken to him. He hasn’t given me any advice yet, we’ve just talked about working out and the team.

Julius has also shown that his name (as well as his unorthodox shoe selection) goes nicely with purple and gold. Hopefully, the NCAA will jump on the NBA’s brand new fashion trend of honoring each franchise’s championship victories with a gold tab on the back of its jersey. Wouldn’t the name Harrison look just a little bit better with a gold No. 8 embroidered right above it?

Connor, look up info about our jerseys. They already pay homage to each championship. (Specially designed to do that.) It happened about 3 or 4 years ago.

Looks like Julius is rocking the “What the” Kobe 8. Those are pretty sick.

Nike pays homage to teams with championships by the shield on the chest piece of the neckline of the jersey. Teams that have never won a championship dont get that reflective elite shield with school logo. We also pay homage on our jersey by the 8 banners with corresponding year on the back of our jerseys. Nike has also put out jerseys for championship teams with a star where the name usually Is, one star for each championship that team had won. We wore them couple years ago, so did Florida.

Kid needs to keep his head down, mouth shut & ears open; trouble finds people especially in LA.
