John Wall thinks Cal is at Kentucky for good

John Wall went on The Dan Patrick Show this morning to talk about the Wizards being in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, and predictably, Patrick asked him what he thought about the rumors of John Calipari going to the NBA. Wall said that while he thinks Cal would be a “great NBA coach,” he’s not going anywhere:

“I think he’d be a great NBA coach, but I think he’s satisfied and happy. Being at Kentucky was his dream job. The stuff he’s done since he’s been there has been pretty amazing.”

So, he’s at UK for good, right?

“Yeah, that’s how I feel. That’s what I think. Yeah, in my best opinion.”

Wall also said he’d approve of a rule allowing players to come to the league directly from high school OR go to college for two years. What would he had done if the rule had been in place his senior year of high school?

I promised my Dad I would go to college, so I would have went to Kentucky.

That’s why we love you, kid. Keep making us proud.

Directly to the NBA draft from high school OR two years of college = bad for Kentucky

Yeah right…..T. Jones, D. Lamb, WCS, Poythress, D. Johnson, Lee, the twins none of them will stay for two years?

UKBlue1!: You’re a moron if you think all of those guys would have chosen two years if college over the draft. Not happening. Maybe you get WCS and Dakari. Possibly Poythresss as he likes school. The best players will enter the draft. Such a rule would greatly benefit Coach K and Pitino. Coach K was wildly successful when the elite high school players could enter the draft and he will revert back to his previous recruiting / coaching model if there is a rule change.

Terry…..UK will still get the best players that choose to go to college…..all of the players on my list have choosen to stay for at least 2 years. If the NBA opens it up it will hurt Duke, KU as equal to UK. Duke is pumping out a lot of one and dones as is KU. Keep fooling yourself if you think the NBA allows high school kids jump straight to NBA or go to college for 2 years. The rule will stay 1 year or go to 2 years.

how come he never followed through with his promise to his dad? Maybe, some day. He was being a little disingenuous with Dan Patrick and us about that. Amiright? Love John Wall but screw this college stuff.

Stop. He went to college, even if it was only for a few semesters. He said it was important to his dad, how do you know he won’t go back when he’s done in the league?

I don’t think that’s how that works. That’s not being honest. And,sure maybe later on he intends to, like i stated. But, that answer was disingenuous. That’s all i’m saying.

The haters don’t seem to realize that no matter what the rules are, UK and Coach Cal will get the best players available. Whether it is a “go straight to the league from HS” or go to college for two years, it just doesn’t matter. The best players that go to college will go to UK. It will be the same then as it is now.

Agreed on the best going to UK. The NBA does not want to deal with high school players. They lost their butts on it. Yes, Kobe, Lebron and Kevin Garnett all made it. There was dozens of other flops and mediocre players drafted by teams that impacted them for years. The rule will stay at 1 year or go to 2 years. They might allow kids to choose the D-league but they will NOT get drafted straight out of high school.

seems like i’ve read some of these comments over on the yum @, where i thoroughly enjoyed replying, posing as a tardinal fan, until they sniffed me out and gave me the death penalty—- permanent banishment. their forums are total chicken shit. any positive utterance about uk and you’re toast, yet they run rampant here at times, as it should be.
