We probably spend more time on this website talking about John Wall’s contribution to his community rather than the basketball court, but for good reason.
It was just a few weeks ago that Wall established the “202 Assist” program, which was intended to raise money in order to help with rent relief in the Washington D.C. area. Wall’s foundation, the John Wall Family Foundation (JWFF) initially set a goal to raise $300,000 after four weeks.
Well, with over eight days left, the JWFF surpassed that target number with ease. Now the organization is setting its sights on a new goal of $600,000. At the time of this post, over $364,000 have already been donated.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS! We’ve reached our $300K goal a week and two days before our June 22nd deadline! But we’re not done yet. We have set a new goal of $600K to help more families in need. Will you assist us? Any amount can make a difference. https://t.co/ZQ0VD6klD5 pic.twitter.com/eb7e2YZWUE

“The 202 Assist program, it’s a rent relief program to help the people in Ward 8 where we have our practice facility, where our Go-Go team (G League affiliate) gets to play their games and practices, and where the Washington Mystics (WNBA team) also practice and play their games,” Wall said during an MSNBC interview. “It’s a relief program to help them pay their rent for the next month or so, however many days we can get it going. I think it’s dope because a lot of people are hurt during this time, the less fortunate.”
Wall recently made it public that he would not be returning to the hardwood if/when the NBA does resume the 2019-20 season, but he fully expects to be ready to go for the start of next year. He hasn’t been on the court since December of 2018 but has made a significant impact in other areas. Wall was honored with the NBA Cares Community Assist Award in 2016, the only former Kentucky Wildcat to earn the award.
