Jay Bilas is filling in for Matt Jones on Monday morning’s Kentucky Sports Radio radio show, and a caller in the first hour asked Bilas about his pre-draft projection for Kevin Knox. Bilas had Knox slotted outside the lottery at No. 15 overall, which ended up being six spots behind Knox’s actual draft slot at No. 9 overall to the New York Knicks.

“I put him also as a sleeper in the draft, which kind of doesn’t make a lot of sense because if I thought he was a sleeper I should’ve put him higher,” Bilas explained. “But I think he can be a terrific NBA player and I think the New York Knicks got a really good prospect.”

“To be the best player he can be, he needs to be assertive and have a take-over mentality. I don’t think he always had that last year. He had a really good year, and he’s just 18 — he’s so young — but I think looking at his future, if he’s more assertive, I think he can be a terrific All-Star caliber NBA player.”

Like the rest of the college basketball world, Bilas was blown away by Knox’s performance against West Virginia. He said, “I wasn’t high on him early in the year. I thought he was kind of up and down with his assertiveness and he appeared to me to be a bit sleepy out there, and then after I saw him at West Virginia… he took over the game and scored 34. He was Superman.”

Tune in to KSR now to hear more from Bilas in the second hour.

He’s only the 3rd Knick Wildcat I can recall other than Kanter and Kenny Walker. Anyone think of any others?

Today is the first day in a long time I haven’t listened to KSR. Bilas can take his opinion and leave the state now. I’m sure Coach K needs his daily ego stroking from Jay

Bilas is by far the most level headed and sensible commentator/analyst out there.
