I’m worried about Karl Towns

Guys, I’m starting to worry about Karl Towns.

Our beloved former Cat looks nothing like himself these days amid the Jimmy Butler drama in Minnesota. Last night, he even asked to be subbed out after airballing a three:

In case you hit stop on that video before the end because it was so sad, TV announcer Jim Petersen didn’t hesitate to put Karl on blast.

“KAT just has that look in his face like he doesn’t want to play tonight. So, so be it.”

Ouch. Karl finished with 14 points off 5-17 from the field and 1-5 from the three-point line. Through five games, he’s averaging 16.4 points and 9.2 rebounds, well below his career average of 21.5 and 11.6, a discouraging trend for a player who just signed a five-year $190 million extension.

It’s not hard to figure out why Karl’s in a funk. Jimmy Butler has made his disdain for Karl well known over the past month, calling out his effort on the court and sabotaging his attempts to take leadership of the team.

The Timberwolves are supposedly still trying to find a trade for Butler, but until they do, Karl needs to stop letting him live in his head.

Karl is to blame for a lot of this. I love him, he is going to be awesome, but he could be HOF if he would just develop an edge. He needs to get mean.

He’s still really good, it’s a shame that he took a hit like that

Karl isn’t mean. He has far exceeded expectations without being mean. Part of the reason we loved him so much is how nice he was. The problem with being nice and having that mentality is that once you’re out in a hostile environment with guys like Butler, it makes you start questioning your morals and what you stand for and it drags you down. “Getting mean” is the easy thing to do, Karl continuing to be who he is and powering through is what will take strength

Or…he got his 190 mil and now who cares? How many fantasy players out there will tell you not to take a player that just got paid?!

“…stop … living in his head” Easier said than done sometimes. Cancer is cancer, whether internal or external, and the only way to beat it is to feed on a healthy diet while you are dealing with it. Right now, no one is feeding KAT anything healthy.

    He’s a kid in a bully’s world right now.

The team needs to excise the tumor before the chemistry of anyone but the cancer is acceptable

100% correct. Butler is a childish clown kicking and screaming for someone…anyone to notice him

Jimmy Butler is a cancer and needs to go. Karl is has the best attitude of anybody I’ve ever seen. I also think Thibs is a terrible coach and the Wolves need to go a new direction.

Thibs is the head of the snake here. Coaches either enable or empower their players, if you’re an enabling coach stuff like this happens where a single personality come forth because everyone needs to be different, if you’re en empowering coach (like Cal and the UK staff) the players come together

KAT should have smacked him down a long time ago. I didn’t know he was such a wuss.

Eh, the Rockets are offering 4 1st rounders for Butler, he’ll be gone soon and KAT will have his team back. I wish KAT could just rise to Butler’s challenge, but I’m sure there’s a LOT more going on here than the public knows, so it might be more complicated than just, “KAT’s work ethic is a problem.”

Butler is a POS and banged Karl’s girlfriend last year. This is 100% on the Wolves for keeping him around this long.

Karl will learn and grow from this and come out of it better than ever. Butler is an ass fur sure, but Karl needs to be a little more intense on the floor and going through this will polish and perfect him.
