Earlier today, Mrs. Tyler informed you on Enes Kanter’s precarious situation. A proud and outspoken supporter of Fethullah Gülen — an enemy of the Turkish regime that is being blamed for last month’s coup attempt — Kanter’s beliefs have distanced him from his family. It’s gotten so bad that his father publicly disowned him.
“I warned Enes before but he didn’t stop writing tweets against our president and the Turkish nation. As the Kanter family, we didn’t support his disrespectful sayings. Me and the Kanter family are disowning Enes. We want him to change his surname immediately. We want to say sorry to our president and to the Turkish nation for having a son like that.”
Even though he hasn’t talked to his father since 2015, he’s still listening. He announced on Twitter in Turkish that he’ll be changing his name, signing off as Enes (Kanter) Gülen. He temporarily changed his Twitter name to reflect his beliefs but he has since undone the change.
