Former Kentucky center Dakari Johnson is an NBL Finals champion and MVP.
On Friday, Johnson’s Anuyi Wenyi squad took home a 112-87 victory over Guangxi Weizhuang to finish off an NBL Finals sweep.
Following a 20-point, 15-rebound performance, the former Wildcat took home NBL Finals MVP honors. He averaged 25.3 points (64.1% shooting), 15.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks in the four-game sweep.
During the regular season, the 7-foot center averaged 25.9 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 0.9 blocks per contest.
After the big series victory and Finals MVP award, Kentucky head coach John Calipari reached out on Twitter to show support of his former center, also adding that Johnson is in the process of earning his degree.
“Congratulations to [Dakari Johnson] on winning a championship and the MVP of the finals in China!” Calipari said. “Dakari is a battler who always gives it everything he has. And he’s getting close to earning his degree too!”
“Thanks coach, appreciate you,” Johnson responded. “Few more classes.”
Congratulations to Dakari on the major achievement.
