John Calipari’s youngest NBA Wildcats are off to a great start in their professional careers, and he took a moment to talk about this year’s crop of summer league stars during his appearance on Kentucky Sports Radio. It came up after Cal spent some time with many of them in Las Vegas and was surprised to see how well they’re playing and taking care of their bodies.

“How about Kevin Knox and Shai out there? How about Hami out there? How about Isaiah out there? Bam was what you think he was, but those others — Kevin Knox, there’s some people that are going to regret not taking him,” Cal said.

Knox went for 29 points Tuesday night to bring his game average to almost 24 points per game. Meanwhile, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is exceeding expectations for the Clippers, but Cal isn’t too surprised by that.

“In my humble opinion — and I’m humble, as everyone knows — Shai was the best point guard in the draft,” he said. “He was! So they’re seeing it now.”

I wish them the best. Hope their short term success in summer practice league carries over into the regular season.

“ … and I’m humble, as everyone knows … “ – Calipari, so much more self aware than Pitino. Rick was always so busy telling everyone what they should think he couldn’t throw in a wink at the media.
