Bill Simmons was recently asked who he believes will be the best point guard in the NBA in five years. The question came up on Simmons’ podcast and the fan who raised it named guys like Ben Simmons, Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, Trae Young, Ja Morant and even Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as potential answers.
Simmons said De’Aaron Fox.
“Fox to me is like the old-school point guard that combines a lot of different guys that I like,” Simmons told his podcast listeners. “There’s some Westbrook athleticism with him, there is some Chris Paul run-the-game, doesn’t really care about stats. I think he’s incredibly unselfish and is just an awesome teammate.”
In five years Fox will be 26 years old and going into his eighth NBA season, likely still with the Kings on a huge contract. In only his second NBA season on an extremely young Sacramento team last year, Fox averaged 17.3 points and 7.3 assists per game. Give him five more years to grow and develop, and Simmons might be right in his high expectations for the former Cat.
Now let’s watch highlights from Fox’s NBA sophomore year:
