BBNBA: Murray drops career high 50 points against the Cavaliers

(@nuggets)
In action-packed NBA fun last night, many former Wildcats put on a show, with one setting a new career-high. Here are the highlights from Friday night’s slate of games.
RECAP
JAMAL MURRAY DROPS 50 IN A WIN OVER THE CAVALIERS
Before dropping a career-high 50 points in a game versus the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jamal Murray had a talk with coach Michael Malone about being aggressive and not passing up shots. Boy did Murray listen because the former Wildcat went 21 of 25 from the field and 8 of 10 from the three-point line. Murray also became the first player to score 50 points without any free throw attempts, while having the second-highest shooting percentage in a game behind only Wilt Chamberlain. With the Cavaliers still hanging around in the fourth Murray hit three 3’s and delivered this slam to put the game away 120-103.

Michael Porter Jr. also assisted Murray, adding 22 points and 7 rebounds of his own, while Nikola Jokic notched another triple-double and four steals. For the Cavaliers, it was a tough night, as Colin Sexton and newly acquired Jarrett Allen led the way in scoring with 23 and 20 respectively.
THE BIGGEST SLAM OF THE NIGHT
In a very low scoring 86-81 victory over Karl-Anthony Towns and his Minnesota Timberwolves, the Toronto Raptors managed to hold Towns in check, as he ended the game with only 19 points and 13 rebounds. The Timberwolves’ second-highest scorer was Malik Beasley with only 13 points. Minnesota clawed back and actually led heading into the fourth quarter before going up 81-75 with less than four minutes left, but collapsed as the Raptors went on an 11-point run to end the game. The biggest news from the night, though, was rookie Anthony Edwards’ poster, which he initially earned four points for.

For the Raptors, Norman Powell scored 31 to help them get back to .500 at 15-15 after starting the season 1-6. Small mistakes by a younger Timberwolves team like a moving screen by Towns down the stretch cost them the game and a win they had in their back pocket very easily. Towns and the Wolves now travel to New York to face Quickley, Randle, and the Knicks on Sunday.
DEVIN BOOKER AND CHRIS PAUL BEAT THE PELICANS AND ERIC BLEDSOE
Chris Paul gets the best in the point guard matchup against Eric Bledsoe, scoring 15 points to go along with season-high 19 assists and two steals as Booker led the team with 23 points. Chris Paul was a perfect veteran addition to the Suns team, helping the growing Suns team close out games. Take a look as the Suns were up 8 points with about four minutes left until the game ends when Chris Paul put the finishing touches with a triple over Lonzo Ball, sealing the deal for the Phoenix Suns.

5 Comments for BBNBA: Murray drops career high 50 points against the Cavaliers
Not a career high dude. Did you watch the playoffs a few months ago?
He scored 50 twice in the playoffs last year, too. Never has scored over 50.
Man that matchup was crazy with him and Donavan Mitchell both scoring 50 points in the same game. I forgot how much fun that series was
50 points is his career high though. He scored 50 twice in playoffs, yes, but it’s still his career high. Article doesn’t say it was his single, highest scoring game. He could score 50 but the next 46 games of his career and it will still be his career high every time.
50 without attempting a free throw makes it even more impressive.
I’m thinking Tony Delk had a similar type game several years ago for the Celtics I think. He also scored 50 but wo a 3pt basket….pretty rare
