Good afternoon, folks. A slew of former Wildcats stole the spotlight on a busy Friday night. Let’s talk NBA.

RECAP – Five ‘Cats drop 20 or more

Anthony Davis (LAL) – 39 points

Starting with Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers, who obliterated the Portland Trail Blazers, 136-113, behind a BBNBA-high of 39 from the former Kentucky one-and-done. Davis added nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks to his stat line, as well, as the Lakers won its 11th straight road game. Rajon Rondo didn’t quite break the 20-point threshold – finishing with six points and three assists – but did make both of his looks from beyond the arc despite missing the entire second half with hamstring soreness.

Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN) – 30 points/Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) – 29 points

Coming in behind Davis was a 30-point performance from Karl-Anthony Towns in a wild overtime game. Towns’ Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder, 139-127, after Chris Paul snitched on Wolves forward Jordan Bell. Bell has his jersey untucked when he checked into the game with just one second left in regulation. Paul loudly pointed it out to the refs, who immediately hit the Wolves with a delay of game penalty, resulting in one technical free throw for OKC as they were trailing 121-119. They would make the free throw. Towns – who was at the free-throw line awaiting his second free throw when Bell had checked in and was hit with the technical – then accidentally made the second free throw, immediately which resulted in this…

The Thunder would run away with the win in overtime in what will do down as a terrible, no good, horrendous loss for the Wolves. Towns finished with 30 points, five rebounds, and eight assists for Minny while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped a career-high of 29 points on 8-13 shooting.

Bam Adebayo (MIA) – 24 points/Tyler Herro (MIA) – 22 points

The Miami Heat duo of former Wildcats Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo combined for 46 points in a 112-103 victory over the Washington Wizards. Adebayo posted a career-high of 24 points in addition to his 14 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks while Herro added 22 points and seven rebounds on 10-18 shooting from the field.

Other notes

  • P.J. Washington posted 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists in a 111-104 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. His Charlotte Hornets teammate, Malik Monk, contributed just four points in 16 minutes.
  • The Denver Nuggets were thoroughly outplayed by the Boston Celtics, falling 108-95, behind 26 points from Jayson Tatum. Enes Kanter added eight points, four rebounds, and three assists for Boston while Jamal Murray had an off night for the Nugs, scoring a mere 10 points on 5-14 shooting. Murray is shooting under 26 percent from three over his previous eight outings.
