BBNBA: Boogie gets hit in the family jewels, then gets a double-double

Last night was a rough night for DeMarcus Cousins, who got hit in the nuts by Pelicans guard Buddy Hield:

Thankfully, Hield got kicked out for that, but earlier in the game, Boogie got T’d up for going after a rebound with Donatas Motiejunas, then arguing with the referee after the call:

That was Cousins’ 17th technical this season, and if he picks up one more, he’ll get a one-game suspension; Boogie had a great quote about it after the game, telling reporters, “I’ve accepted it. Shit, they’re after me, so just play.” (Quote via Sean Cunningham)

LOL. Drama aside, DeMarcus did plenty of great things last night, so that’s where we’ll start today’s BBNBA roundup.

Meanwhile, Anthony had another 30+ point night, and did ridiculous stuff like this:

Did you know he was a point guard before his growth spurt in high school??? Here are the complete highlights form his duel with Boogie:

A relatively quiet night for Towns, who “only” had 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, but his +26 efficiency rate really tells the story.

Damarcus should not have gotten a tech for that.

I love when people get so quick to call Boogie a ‘thug’ or whatever because he gets a lot of technicals. I saw a stat line on ESPN that shows Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin are the players behind Cousins who have the most technicals since 2011. Are those dudes considered ‘thugs’?

    Also,

Kobe Bryant had 118 technical fouls in the last decade (11.8 per season). Second only to Rasheed Wallace.

Carmelo Anthony. 112 technical fouls in the last decade (11.2 per season).
Amare Stoudemire. 101 technical fouls in the last decade (10.1 per season).
Dirk Nowitzki. 84 technical fouls in the last decade (8.4 per season).
Kevin Garnett. 83 technical fouls in the last decade (8.3 per season).

Good point. And, thugs don’t typically take care of underprivileged kids like Boogie does.

Agree that “thug” is crossing the line but what word/phrase/name do you think fits?

The refs arent out to get boogie and if he knew how to “just play” he wouldn’t have the reputation he has today. He has all the tools in the world to succeed (at a very high level) but he is his own worst enemy and things wont change until he does.

Yeah, because he really isn’t successful at a high level. /S
Agree he could be truly transcendent were he to “just play” a bit more but to suggest that he isn’t succeeding is somewhat disingenuous. Can’t blame Cousins for poor management decisions and lack of success from the most of the other players.

28 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, and 14-16 FT’s is a pretty high level in just this one example.
Many teams would like to get him, and the Kings want to keep him.

I call BS here. The refs may not be “out to get” Boogie, but he does get reffed differently than most superstars of his caliber. That is based on reputation, which has been set with him since he was in high school. The officials are quicker with the whistle for Cousins and never ever give him the benefit of the doubt. If you don’t believe me, then remember the time that Chris Paul completely flopped near Cousins with zero contact and the refs immediately called a technical on Cousins. They didn’t even review it. The next day the call was overturned and Paul was fined for flopping.

I was replying to bob knight. And, boy , he’s hurting in that picture.
      Ouch.

THAT was not a flagrant 2, that was a STEAL…he was headed to the other end with that one…I have never wanted to win a game that bad. DC got a technical for that??? that was TECHNICALLY sexual assault. Buddy Hield has a lot of explaining to do on that play. That was not a hit, that was a GROPE.

When you post the stat line on the former UK players, I cannot see the total points they scored. I don’t always feel like doing the math….:)
