BBNBA: AD Drops 50, Herro Rallies Heat in OT

Good afternoon, folks. Tyler Herro is, in fact, still a bucket. Let’s talk NBA.

RECAP

AD vs. KAT

It was a classic KAT vs. ‘Cat matchup on Sunday night in Los Angeles between two former No. 1 overall NBA Draft picks. Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns went head-to-head, but it was the man from the home team that exploded for a special night. Davis popped off for a 50-burger in a 142-125 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. AD shot an unreal 20-29 from the field (missing his only two shots from deep) to go along with a stuffed stat line of seven rebounds, six assists, four steals, one block, and just one turnover in 39 minutes. He also made all 10 of his free throws.

42 of Davis’ points came in the first three quarters alone. It was the fourth time in his career he’s reached the 50-point mark.

Towns, on the other hand, was bested by his Kentucky counterpart. KAT went for 19 points, four rebounds, and eight assists on 7-16 shooting that included a dreary 1-7 clip from beyond the arc. Towns and the Wolves did their best to keep the game close, but could never close a double-digit gap before the clock ran out.

Lakers guard Rajon Rondo was held out of this game due to a sore hamstring that limited him in the previous outing.

Tyler Herro can shoot

This shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with the site, but Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro was a scorching hot ball of fire on Sunday against the Chicago Bulls. Miami needed overtime to seal a tightly contested 110-105 victory, but none of it would have been possible without the efforts of Herro. The former Wildcat poured in 27 points on the night while playing over 40 minutes – a season-high. He made 10-22 shots from the field and shot 5-11 from three to go along with six rebounds and three assists.

But the most impressive part? He scored 16 of the Heat’s final 18 points. He hit a go-ahead game-winner in regulation that was thwarted by late Bulls free throws. He then proceeded to drill three triples in overtime, causing the lively Miami crowd to burst into a frenzy. Herro scored 11 of the Heat’s 13 points in the extra period. He is the definition of clutch.

Bam Adebayo finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and three steals as he continues his impressive start to the season. Adebayo is a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate at this very moment.

Other notes

  • P.J. Washington made only three shots in the Charlotte Hornets 122-107 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, but he still managed 20 points thanks to an impressive 12-13 mark from the charity stripe. He also recorded eight rebounds and three assists but suffered an ankle in the fourth quarter that forced him to sit out the remainder of the game.
  • Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets have been struggling the past few nights and that continued with its fourth loss in five games on Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets. Murray posted 21 points, three rebounds, and five assists but on 7-17 shooting.
  • We’ll end the recap with the Oklahoma City Thunder, who earned a 108-96 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander registered 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists while Nerlens Noel contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
