Bam Adebayo listed as “doubtful” again for Game 3 of NBA Finals

The Miami Heat need Bam Adebayo in the worst way.

After dropping the first two games of the 2020 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami is facing a possible 3-0 hole when they play Game 3 later on Sunday. Adebayo was ruled out of Game 2 and did not play in the 124-114 loss after suffering a neck strain in Game 1, and his status for Game 3 is currently listed as “doubtful”.

Adebayo has battled a series of shoulder and wrist injuries throughout the playoffs, most recently injuring himself against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. During the third quarter of Game 1 in the Finals, he exited the floor after clearly doing something to his shoulder/neck area. The former Wildcat finished with eight points and four rebounds in 21 minutes before heading for the locker room.

He told Yahoo Sports reporter Chris Haynes on Saturday that he planned on making his return in Game 3, but the injury report does not yet reflect that: “Yes, I believe I’ll be in the lineup,” Adebayo said, according to Haynes. “I’m feeling better. I believe I’ll play.”

Miami actually performed much better in Game 2 despite the absence of Adebayo and starting point guard Goran Dragic, who is also dealing with an injury and is doubtful for Game 3. Tyler Herro and Kelly Olynyk stepped up for the Heat in spite of the loss and will need to do the same again in Game 3 if the team’s stars aren’t ready to go.

Game 3 is scheduled to tipoff later on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. EST on ABC.

UPDATE (5:46 p.m.)

Adebayo will NOT play in Game 3, the team says.

Bam not playing has very mininmal effect regardless of the expected outcome against these Lakers . Any team that has King James .

True but they would be more competitive. Adebayo is known for be able to guard on the perimeter as well as the inside, which is something you have to have if you stand any chance at containing AD. If he’s in maybe they win a game or two but if he’s out it’ll be a sweep.

They could really use Dragic too. I think he’s their leading scorer

Miami has been a fun team to watch all year, but they’ve simply over-achieved. They do not have enough bigs and scoring down low. Early on Myles Leonard looked like he could fill that role, but he’s not good enough. Honestly, they need to dump Dragic, Nunn, Kelly O, Leonard, and Hill…let Herro start at pg, and then trade all those guys for another max player down low…preferably Giannis. That would be incredible, but a long-shot. They still need a better backup center and someone to pair with Bam down low. Especially as his game develops to more of a point forward.

And there is a reason I say dump Nunn and why Spo has not played him much in the playoffs. He has a lot of value now as trade bait and but just doesn’t fit to their style long term imo. He is careless with the ball and jacks up too many bad shots. He might be a good microwave guy for your second team, but I also don’t know if his attitude will fit their culture long-term. He reminds me of Dion Waiters a bit…more stoic, but similar game. Herro is the future at PG, not Nunn. Everything they want to do is predicated on both Herro and Robinson getting vastly better on defense though.

Herro’s defense is due to be 20 years old and simply not having the strength to hold his position.

The Nunn statements are spot on. Nunn is a shoot first PG and looks at ways to get his own stats. Eerily similar to Ashton Hagans at UK during Herro’s lone year.

Hero will never have a good enough game to be a starter pg unless you just choose to put him their. He thrives off ball screens and he will never be strong enough defensively . He would be to easy to defense if he was a focal point of a team. the heat is just a good fit for him offensively he thrives off ball movement ,pick and rolls and screens .
