Archie Goodwin breaks Summer League scoring record

Former Kentucky guard Archie Goodwin has officially broken the NBA Summer League scoring record.

His 342 points all-time pushes him past Coby Karl for the No. 1 spot.

Here was the record-clinching steal and score:

Drafted No. 29 overall by Oklahoma City in 2013, this is Goodwin’s fifth summer league appearance.

Congratulations to Archie on the impressive feat!

    A dubious honor.

It’s better than going to the summer league and not scoring a lot – right? Given how this guy played at UK I’m just impressed he’s still on the cusp of the NBA 5 years later.

I think that says more about the current state of the NBA than it does about Archie. But props to him for continuing to compete for a roster spot. Had he focused on developing a reputation as a defensive specialist ala Liggins, he would probably be enjoying a little more job security in year 5. He certainly has the physical tools and athleticism to be an elite defender if he applied himself.

I’m reminded of the movie Bull Durham where “Crash” Davis sets the minor league home run record.

It’s nice but I’m sure he’d rather be doing it in the Major Leagues. I suspect Goodwin is thinking the same thing.

Congrats to him for continuing to battle for a roster .
But this is kind of like being voted the hottest Golden Girl.

What’s your point? You act as if there’s a not hot golden girl.

Congrats on having to play in the summer league EVERY year and thus having the scoring record …. Why are we treating this like it’s an honor, KSR?

Breaking records is a good thing most of the time, but the last guy who held the record I’ve never heard of. Is it good that you’ve spent enough time in the lower league to break those records?

Not being mean…but if they tracked all the stats in summer league, I’d wager he’s Top-5 all-time in charges and turnovers as well. That’s really what stands out in my mind about Archie : driving the lane with reckless abandon, and usually steamrolling the defender…and possibly traveling and/or losing the ball in the process.
