Anthony Davis and Tyler Ulis Named to Chicago HS All-Decade Team

Former Kentucky players Anthony Davis and Tyler Ulis have both taken different paths since their basketball careers as Wildcats came to an end, but they now share a common accolade.

Over at NBC Sports Chicago, they complied a list of the 15 best high school boys basketball players to come out of the Chicago area in the last decade. And who do we find as members of the second-team? Both Davis (who graduated high school in the class of 2011) and Ulis (class of 2014).

Here’s what Scott Phillips had to say about the legendary Wildcats.

The first-team consists of several familiar names, such as former Duke products Jahlil Okafor (class of 2014) and Jabari Parker (class of 2013) along with former Villanova guard Jalen Brunson (class of 2015) and former Kansas big man Cliff Alexander (class of 2014).

Continuing down the list, we find even more relevant names such as former UConn guard Ryan Boatright (class of 2011) and former Louisville big Wayne Blackshear (class of 2011) on the second-team. Making the cut for the third-team was former Wisconsin forward Frank Kaminsky (class of 2011 and a person I wish I could forget for eternity) along with former Iowa State guard Talen Horton-Tucker (class of 2018).

Had Davis played for a more prominent high school team that came away with more success (and if he didn’t take so long to hit that famous growth spurt), he might have found his way to the first-team on this list. If we were to rework this article into “best players to come out of the Chicago area in the last decade”, Davis would assuredly be the top overall prospect. Ulis, similar to Davis, exploded onto the national recruiting scene towards the end of his high school career.

The most important takeaway from this is that Chicago produces an insane amount of great basketball players. Six of the 15 players listed currently play for an NBA team.
