Alex Poythress signs with the Indiana Pacers

Great news for one of our favorite former Cats. The Indiana Pacers just announced they’ve signed Alex Poythress to a two-way contract.

Poythress spent most of last season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Pacers’ D-League affiliate. With the Mad Ants, he averaged 18.5 points and 7.1 rebounds in 46 games and was named a D-League All-Star. In April, he was called up by the Philadelphia 76ers and over six games, averaged 10.7 points and 4.8 rebounds. He had 18 points and 6 rebounds vs. the Knicks on April 12:

Welcome back to Indy, Alex!

Can someone explain to me what a two way contract is?

it means the Pacers can send him to the GLeague or call him up to the NBA whenever they want. i think each team can have like 2(?) Two-Way Contract players on their squad, in addition to the 13(?) normal roster spots occupied by full time NBA players.

It means his salary is dependent on whether or not he’s playing for the Pacers or their D-League affiliate. He can spend up to 45 days with the Pacers making the rookie minimum ($204,000 for 45 days), but the rest of the time, he’ll be in the D-League making that salary ($75,000).

Thanks ac2 and Tyler. I didn’t know the d-league salary had increased to 75k! Isn’t that like double what it was originally? Good for Alex.
