Za’Darius Smith is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL these days with eight sacks in seven games this season, but it is the sack of another kind that has the former Kentucky Wildcat star heading to court next week.
Smith was cited for possession of the devil’s lettuce during a traffic stop back on September 29. Smith and two of his Packers teammates, Rashan Gary and Kingsley Keke, were traveling back to Green Bay from Chicago when the car, driven by Smith, was pulled over just south of Milwaukee.
According to the report, Smith was stopped after he was clocked going 81 mph in a 60 mph construction zone. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, and all three men were pulled out and handcuffed for questioning.
None of the players smelled marijuana, they each said, but Smith admitted to smoking in a Chicago apartment before the road trip. A search of the vehicle found three blunts and a vaping cartridge in a duffel bag.
Smith will head to court next week for tickets on speeding and possession of marijuana.
The possession is not a criminal charge.
