After more than a month on the sidelines, Willie Cauley-Stein says he’ll be returning to the court for Wednesday night’s matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns.

The former Cat strained his left foot before training camp, and he arrived at September’s media day wearing a walking boot. But on Wednesday, the big man told reporters he expects to play this evening.

“It’s been long, [but] they kept me busy,” Cauley-Stein said of the recovery process. “I was always doing either conditioning or weights or spot shots – I haven’t just been sitting around. I’ve been watching, being tortured. Man, I’m just so excited to be healthy again.”

The No. 6 pick from the 2015 NBA Draft averaged 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game last season with the Sacramento Kings. Cauley-Stein signed a two-year, $4.4 million deal with the Warriors during this summer’s free agency period.

Earlier this week, Warriors’ coach Steve Kerr also said he expects Cauley-Stein to earn some minutes this week.

Golden State is currently 1-2 on the season, and they’re still desperately looking for their new identity. Adding a big man with league experience to the floor certainly won’t hurt.

“I’m the biggest guy out there, so that mix-match won’t be there anymore,” Cauley-Stein told reporters. “But it’s hard not being able to practice and really feel the gel. This will be the first time I even practice with these dudes in a game setting, so it’s going to be a lot of learning on the fly.”

The Warriors will face-off against the 2-2 Suns Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m. It’ll be fun to see this duo back on the court, even though they’re on different teams:

Willie is responsible for a few of my all time favorite dunks. I always liked him, but it always seemed like he just gave it 70% out there or something.
