We are literally on the cusp of the 2019 season and guess what? It’s time to see where the Kentucky football team might be bowling later this year.
Today, ESPN released its updated bowl projections. Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach have 10 schools from the SEC playing in the postseason: Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina.
For the past three years, it seems like Kentucky has been predicted to the same handful of bowls; this year is no different. According to the most recent reporting by ESPN, the Kentucky Wildcats will be playing in the Belk Bowl or the Birmingham Bowl.
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina
Dec. 31, noon, ESPN
Bonagura: Auburn vs. Virginia Tech
Schlabach: Kentucky vs. Virginia Tech
Legion Field, Birmingham, Alabama
Jan. 2, 3 p.m., ESPN
Bonagura: Kentucky vs. Cincinnati
Schlabach: Army vs. Cincinnati
Not only does an ESPN writer have Kentucky in the Belk Bowl, USA Today has the Wildcats playing NC State in the Belk Bowl as well.
What is the College Football Playoff Looking like?
If you’re like me and already cannot wait until the College Football Playoff, here are the teams people say might be in the mix for a spot in the final four. In case you didn’t watch College GameDay last Saturday, one team was mentioned that really shocked me.
Take it away, LC!
In other crazy picks, there are five teams that are consistently picked to be in the Playoff: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma. One team the GameDay crew failed to mention but should be included today? Texas. The Longhorns looked awfully good in the Big 12 championship game, and with homegrown talent Sam Ehlinger returning, Texas should be a mentioned as a final-four contender.
The main fight to look at is in the SEC. Is the Selection Committee going to put two SEC schools in the Playoff again? As in 2018, things can ultimately happen the same way with two SEC school battling out for the championship. Like Texas, Georgia has their eyes set on more than a conference championship. Can Jake Fromm and the Dawgs get it done this time? Could we get a glimpse of Gunnar Hoak on the Buckeyes’ sidelines during the Playoffs?
Who gets in the Citrus Bowl?
How can I not say anything about the game UK just played at the beginning of this year? If they weren’t picked to be in the Citrus Bowl again, then who could be?
Florida is currently projected to make the Citrus Bowl. One opponent might be Penn State. Huh, that seems familiar.
What do you think about the bowl placements as of today?
