Western KY bourbon distillery suffered rickhouse collapse overnight

A popular bourbon distillery in western Kentucky may have lost a big chunk of its bourbon supply last night.

The O.Z. Tyler Distillery in Owensboro, Ky., suffered a rickhouse collapse sometime around midnight. The distillery’s master distiller, Jacob Call, told WEHT Eyewitness News the early estimate of fallen barrels is in the neighborhood of 4,500 barrels of bourbon.

The rickhouse held around 20,000 barrels prior to the collapse, Call said.

No one was hurt by the fall — at least not physically. Many are hurt by seeing the photos, myself included.

If it weren’t Monday morning at 10 a.m., I’d pour up a glass of O.Z. in memory of the barrels lost.

Starting to think those flimsy rickety structures holding massive amounts of heavy barrels isn’t a good idea.

“Flimsy” is a bit of an exaggeration.

10 AM on a Monday morning is no excuse to not honor such a tragedy with a dram or two.

Shout out to you if you remember the last time KSR posted a collapsed bourbon building.
