Ugh… I want to believe this year’s team is a lot better than last year’s, but there’s not much difference in their record. The only thing this year has over last is they beat Louisville at home where as last year they lost on the road. You want to compare this year’s team to 2011, but that team had several big wins in Maui, Notre Dame, and at Louisville that this team doesnt have

Our Defense was awful last night. No talking 3 players going for blocks and no one blocking out. You can’t come back from 16 and a slow start if you can’t keep anyone from scoring. It was painful to watch.

Let’s not. I HOPE this team gets past the sweet sixteen, but I doubt it. This team either plays like champions or like NIT grade. I think this team has peaked, now it’s just a matter of which team shows up on a game to game basis.

I love how UK fans say that they don’t want to Harrisons to come back next year. Are you crazy?

Yeah, they haven’t been great this year and they’ve been pretty inconsistent. But they’re freshman. No, they’re not the typical freshman that we are accustomed to seeing, such as Wall, Cousins, Knight, David, etc. But if we would have had a freshman like Andrew Harrison before those guys we would be excited to have them come back another year.

I never thought I’d be looking forward to next year already, but maybe they’ll have that combination of experience and talent in 2014-2015. If the Harrisons, Poythress, Johnson, Lee, Willis, Hawkins and WCS all come back to play with next year’s guys we could have a really good team with some experience.

Of course, this year’s team was supposed to go 40-0 so who the hell really knows?

You usually give creditt where it is due, want to make sure you do so again this time. Dan Dakich may be annoying and or condescending but I think he did a very good job calling the game last night. Very complimentary but also very honest about where this team is right now.

The teams we’ve had since winning it in 2012 remind me so much of the UF teams that came in after they won back to back. Plenty of talent, but major problems in the effort and focus areas. Looks like same thing is happening here.

We still aren’t even a team. Another year of saying “wait until February.” Well it’s almost here and we still don’t look like a team that has a shot at the championship.

I was really impressed with Kenny Payne last night after the game. He was straight to the point and really understood what the team is lacking. I would be scared to argue with him. WCS is soft. Julius, and the Harrisons havent figured that they cannot overpower college players. They are used to playing against high schoolers which they obviously had the advantage over. Frustrating to say the least. I would pull a coach K and pull the started and empty the bench to prove a point because those guys will come and at least give effort and hustle. I could take them getting beat easier.

He doesn’t play so he can’t comment about his play. Lee hears the same thing we do when Cal

the place up. Lee and the others sit and watch, and the smell grows worse.
WCS dyed his hair, and everybody is talking about him. Maybe Lee thinks if he mentions his hair

    This team personifies the saying:

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane…

To me the worst part of the game was the complete lack of fight. I mean really go down fighting, get pissed off and play pissed off. You still may lose, but at least you showed heart. Instead we just slept walked and went through the motions.

Plus if Polson is going to play that much, I would like to see Willis get more PT, I mean he could have left LSU players wide open just as easily as the more “talented” players that did play.

The Harrison twins continuously disappoint me–both on and off the court. I had the “pleasure” of meeting them at KBA a couple of weekends ago. They were very unpleasant. I got no sense of happiness from them at all. Maybe it’s because their dad was with them?? They came to a facility full of young basketball players aspiring to be like them and wanting to take pictures with them and get their autographs, only to sit off in a corner away from everyone so that they would not be bothered. They walked around for over an hour with, for lack of a better term, “KBA Security” directing people away from them. If this is how they behave around their fans, no wonder they are such a disappointment on the court! They obviously do not feel the passion that comes with being a part of the University of Kentucky!!

Bottom line is, mediocre experienced talent beats great inexperienced talent, unless that new talent is willing to work HARD… and I mean MKG HARD. I think that team was an anomaly.

Matt, the reason many desire Hawkins has all to do with competitive spirit. Yes, long-term Andrew Harrison is a much better option. That is obvious. His measurables are clearly there. But as an NCAA coach myself, you simply cannot play a kid that is not displaying any heart or effort. It is insulting to your program and the kids you have that are working hard. I witnessed kids play many different NCAA sports for many years now…The Harrison kids are simply not competing. It is utterly disgraceful to see a kid walk on a basketball court after making a mistake. I cannot watch that garbage. At least with a kid like Hawkins, you know you are getting fire and intensity. You can accept some aggressive & “effort mistakes”. I would rather lose and have all my guys competing, over having spoiled kids suck the energy out of my whole team. It is unacceptable at that level and the Harrison’s should be benched until they finally yield some heart in a game. You’re not teaching the kids or the rest of the team anything if you continue to allow those kids to play 35 minutes representing your jersey. Despicable.

    11:05 am January 29, 2014 Permalink

Hey; got some news for some of you guys. Sometimes (more often than not clearly) the potential for the very best of high school basketball players to immediately impact a team’s level of play is to say the least overstated. To be honest “recruiting goo rues” are like weather forecasters back before radar and satellites were invented. When you drill down that is not the issue. The issue is that so many if not a gross majority of fan bases “drink the cool-aid.” The very best of bloodlines are no guarantee of a Derby winner. Furthermore NBA General Managers will utilize their coveted lottery and first round pick and stake millions of dollars on the potential of a college freshmen regardless of their less than stellar play over the course of their one college season. They make it to a payday that we would all welcome based on the hype of their high school careers combined with a few “highlights” during their freshmen year. Forgive me for stating the obvious but as I read the hundreds of comments posted over the last 14 hours it seems that many have yet to realize and understand the lay of the land. Cal has adopted an approach where he is trying to hedge his bet by recruiting those high school players that many “think!” are going to be great collage players but it’s still a horserace and frequently long shots cross the finish line ahead of the favorite. So many components and nuances must fall into place for any team to compete at a high level much less compete for a national championship. It’s a very fragile formula. Cal found the right balance in his third year and silenced a number of his very vocal detractors. No one can catch lightning in a bottle year in and year out especially when you’re betting on horses in their maiden race. Heck there is no guarantee with a stable full of seasoned three year olds.

Everyone needs to stop pointing to the Knight led team as a comparison for this year. That team was doing most things right all year, it just couldn’t quite close games out at the end. They lost a number of games which they had a shot to win at the end. They also had some big wins early in the year. In the tourney they started hitting those shots and winning the close games (Princeton, Ohio State, UNC).

Another thing is that team had great guard play, which is big in tournament time. Knight, Lamb, and Miller could all handle the ball and shoot the lights out. This team has ZERO guards. I don’t care what the high school rankings say the Harrisons are not guards. Remember Liggins was listed as a PG out of high school as well and it wasn’t until he was a junior small forward that he started to thrive.

If you put him in the game for defense energy, it forces you to run the offense even more through Randle, and he already draws 3 guys.

It forces you to run the offense through guys who can’t run the offense.

It’s not because he can’t shoot. It’s because he won’t shoot and they know he’s scared to.

Who would have guessed at the beginning of the year that BBN would be discussing whether to bench Andrew Harrison for Dominque Hawkins and the turning point in the conversation would be that Andrew isn’t quite as bad?

Clearly, the real problem with this team is they can’t cope with ice storms.

This team is missing one thing every Calipari team has had… A leader. That’s is that’s all. Someone becomes a vocal leader they win big, if not they struggle. Sometimes players need to be holding each other accountable as much as he coach if not more. This team doesn’t do that. It’s really that simple.

The problem now is that Missouri is much better than Arkansas or LSU imo.

LSU has the size to match us inside. I don’t believe Mizzou does.

So you bleeding into Lloyd’s time slot will mean he will actually have numbers during the time slot. Sholw is horrible. Would rather listen to Dave Ramsey than the crap that comes from that program.

It doesn’t matter what these other guys are doing at practice. It’s about motivating the starters.

And you don’t have to use an 11 man rotation. For one game, you play the other guys more to at least show you’ll do it.

I think we should do the exact opposite…. Let them play 40 mins without getting a break, or until they foul out. They wouldn’t know what to do huffing it out in front of the home crowd for 40 mins.

Well, I’ve listened to the post game show and the Wednesday Morning thread, I’ve tweeted and done all the things I do on a consistent basis . I believe that I have only posted one comment on KSR and never called in because Matt pretty much is right on with his opinions. I have suffered through today until I’m sickened to the point were I have no outlet but to use this as a form of therapy. Its Sad really !!
DEFENSE: Its bad folks. Of course everybody can see that, but I mean REALLY bad. Literally I turned my head (like my wife does in a scary movie) when LSU would grab a defensive board and get out in transition. I have listened to many opinions on what is going on with this team and the one thing I believe is the deal breaker is defense. Anybody can score on us . The team is just not quick enough to handle the man to man switches, equals slow starts. They could however compensate that issue if they COMMUNICATED better vocally. That was one of the issues last year.

So what happened last night ? It started with bad defense which caused poor decisions on the offense. Now toss in a little doubt and momentum and what we have folks is a chant from the LSU fans “OVERRATED”. Turnover after Turnover I started to see THE LOOK! What ? Every Fan knows THE LOOK !!!! Well let me break it down for you. Its that moment when the TV program shows a close up of a player after they missed a shot or made a bad defensive play. Glassy Eyed, Confused and looking down on the floor. There many things as a fan to worried about , but THE LOOK is probably the biggest. It is the sign of a long …long … game. Some players can come out of it with the help of there teammates but, its kind of hard to when all your teammates have it!!!!!!!!!!.

I personally do not feel bad for any player on this team. That fact is boys …. Your wearing a Kentucky Uniform and that alone deserves respect to fight and never give up until the buzzer sounds.
Coach Cal will always make mistakes but , 80% of last night is on the team.
One thing is clear. These boys are about ready to go into another hostile environment. Guess what? The secret is out !!! Kentucky Pre-Season #1 is exactly what every program had hoped for. Lets hear it one more time .

Queue You Tube OVERRATED Chant now

I’ll be watching and listening to the pre-game , post game and Monday @10 am. like I always do.

    Ps.

The guy that bet 1,000 on KY . Is welcome to play poker with me and the boys every Friday anytime.
