Kind of awesome to be surprised with the Knox news on Saturday. Good for him for keeping all the “I called it first” sports media from finding out. Now I don’t know which to want more: Diallo returns or Bamba commits.

either one would be AWESOME. still no reason we can’t get both though

If we get both, I’ll be a raving lunatic by the time the season starts.

Diallo is vastly more important. We need guards and shooting. I think we are fine with our bigs. I have no problem with a Richards, Tai, SKJ trio at Center.

I thought there was no way we were getting Knox. I’m glad to be pleasantly surprised.

Return of the platoons. And poor SKJ still can’t get in. 🙂

that would suck for skj bc everyone on the way out the door said he had the most potential of everyone returning. not that it’s a full cupboard or anything.

He should definitely stay off the hover board; just ask Mike Tyson.

    • Maybe he’ll ride one out of the locker room at Madness this fall. 🙂

Green, Knox, Vanderbilt, Washington, and Bamba. If Vanderbilts injury is terrible, Green, Knox, Washington, Richards, and Bamba and the whole position less idea is in play.
If Green can’t protect the ball he could be benched too.
      Diallo stays in the draft.

Did anyone else hear Knox’s dad on SMST yesterday? Sounds like one of those parents who set out to mold an athlete to live through vicariously. “We” picked the schools we did for these reasons… “I had him in football and basketball” to maximize his chances of becoming a pro.
The good news is Cal is a master ego manager, and Kevin Jr. seems like a great kid that LOVES basketball, so it all works out well.

    • runningunnin.454

    • ClutchCargo
      10:49 am May 8, 2017 Permalink

I’ll admit I didn’t hear the interview, but I haven’t seen anything from Knox’s dad that would make me compare him to LaVar Ball. I see nothing wrong with providing guidance to your own kid. That’s a matter for the family to decide. It’s when the dad makes it all about himself, like LB does, that it’s a problem.

    • Realme
      10:57 am May 8, 2017 Permalink

Oh, he definitely wasn’t a total lunatic. No worries there.

    • I was late for church so I heard that on my phone in the car. I did raise my eyebrow a bit when he kept saying “We”, but yeah, I don’t think he holds a candle to Lavar.

I also thought the QB thing will be the new “Did you know Willie played…”. If he was really as good a QB as his dad said though, that is insane!

My dream is that we FINALLY get an NBA team in Kentucky, and we immediately begin to stock the team with ex-UK players. If this happened, it would make me not dislike the one-and-done rule as much, since we could continue to pull for these guys representing our state. It would be like a professional UK team that never graduates or goes pro. And to have the games in the YUM Center and watch all the UofL fans cringe would be extra sweet!

    • Realme

RCF, it would be nice to have that in place to soften the blow when Cal retires. I’d even be willing to share the team with Card fans*.

      *some of them, anyways.

Wow, what a fun (and exhausting) weekend! Mrs. RCF turned 50 on sOaks Day, went to a Derby Party and her horse won $100 in a betting pool (she was up $200 for the weekend), and since I forgot my phone I come home Saturday night and see on KSR that we got Kevin Knox! And Sunday my younger kid’s team won her tournament. I will say that I am voting down the idea of playing in another tournament the Sunday after Derby – lot’s of parents looking like Keith Richards at 7 AM in the morning the day after Derby.

    • RealCatsFan

And of course, I picked Thundersnow out of the hat for my draw. As usual, my Derby pick comes bucking and braying dead last – or in this case, did not finish. I want my $5 back! 😉

    • Realme

I don’t watch horse racing, because for me it’s not worth the risk of falling for a horse that will get hurt / killed. But if I had, Thundersnow would have been my favorite. Love a crazy horse. And then the winner had bitten the governor of Ky. Hilarious.

Realme, I am always nervous during the Oaks and Derby that another tragic accident will happen. I will never forget the Eight Belles incident and how sad it was. That is one of the unfortunate realities of horse racing. It is an inherently dangerous sport, for both the horses and the jockeys.

There was a KSR poster (jaws2) who was claiming that he won (I think) the superfecta in the Derby. If so, that paid over $75K on a $1.00 bet. Maybe it was the trifecta, which paid about $8k on a $1.00 bet.

Knox picked Ky over Duke. When is the last time we stole one from Duke. I can’t remember.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:40 am May 8, 2017 Permalink

I think there have been a number of kids that Cal has got that Duke also wanted, but I don’t recently recall a recruit who was being picked to Duke by almost everyone, that UK snuck in and snagged.

    • ukjaybrat

pretty much all of your top 15 guys have both schools on there to start. so really most of their picks are over us and most of our picks are over them… for the most part.

all I have to say is thank you ESPN for Cal’s 30 for 30. If you don’t think Knox watched that and it didn’t influence his decision, you are a crazy person.

Remember when American Express was doing those commercials with Coach K in them during the NCAA Tournament that were basically a recruiting commercial for Duke? I suspect the Duke fans are about as mad as UK fans were after they saw the 30 For 30 about Cal.

    • runningunnin.454

I don’t think we will ever know the significance of that being aired during recruiting period.
Maybe we should ask Coach K his opinion of it.

No question, DC. Knox’s dad (and maybe Knox himself) specifically mentioned the 30 for 30.

  18. RealCatsFan

I think a Derby horse is worth a lot more $$ than the governor is, therefore you have to leave the horse along. If it won’t let go of Bevin, then he will just have to run along in front of the horse during the race. 🙂

I did show jumping for years, and have been bitten by a horse. It hurts. I have never heard of a horse biting someone and not letting go. It’s not in their nature. That’s more of a predator behavior.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:34 am May 8, 2017 Permalink

They are odd critters, and they can be headstrong and have their little quirks. I recall reading about an ex Derby winner (can’t recall the name) that hated birds. If the horse saw any birds in his paddock or meadow, he would chase them away. (And no, it was not “Mine That Bird”).

  19. ky196

I got curious Saturday night to see if the pukies and the tar bums were upset about Knox’s decision to be a Cat and saw a lot of comments that said that it was made because of Cal’s association with WWW. Guess they watched the 30 for 30 and decided that is the only way that Cal gets these really good recruits that want to be prepared by the best for the NBA when the time comes!

    • RealCatsFan

    • RealCatsFan

exactly. the only way anyone will give lebron the credit he deserves is if he wins 10+ championships. because even if he ties jordan, the pro jordan guys will just say the game is easier now when all the best players flock to the same 3-4 teams
