Watch Wenyen Gabriel announce his commitment

Wenyen Gabriel caught the recruiting world off guard today when he announced his commitment to Kentucky, via an appearance on ESPN Recruiting Nation. Though the Cats appeared to be in good shape coming off Gabriel’s official visit, very few people knew a commitment would come this morning.

Gabriel said on the show, “I’m just so happy to announce, after weeks and weeks of contemplating and thinking, I’m proud to announce that I will be a Kentucky Wildcat.”

The five-star forward said he really likes the way John Calipari was so involved in his recruitment, and how Cal went as far as to meet with him the day before the Hall of Fame induction.

Gabriel also said he can play any position for the Cats.

“It’s going to be really special.”

Like how the young man was confident with his decision. So many times you see kids nervous with the nervous shaky grin. This kid just stepped up, announced and could have kept right on talking. Love how the program is getting these well spoken articulate players…he could have hosted that segment better than the actual host..go big blue…

david, i agree. but it did show off the kid’s composure. a lot of high schoolers would be looking to get it done and get off the stage, especially when the host seems to be inviting them to do just that. gabriel wanted to thank people and compliment the other schools and he took the time to do that. finkelstein got hosterized.
