Kentucky’s point guard situation is still a question mark, but incoming Wildcat Nolan Hickman might have something to say about that.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound point guard class of 2021 prospect out of Wasatch Academy (Utah) is a star on the rise. Hickman was named a McDonald’s All-American selection and is graded by 247 Sports as the No. 32 player in the country and the No. 4 ranked point guard. Following the transfer of Devin Askew to Texas, Hickman is the lone pure point guard currently on the 2021-22 roster.

The expectation is that John Calipari and the coaching staff will find a way to add another lead guard, whether it’s someone such as Marcus Carr through the transfer portal or another top high school talent such as TyTy Washington, who is friends with Hickman and has played against him since the two were in grade school.

If you aren’t familiar with Hickman’s game, consider this a good place to start. A 10-minute highlight video from his senior year in high school was recently released and it’s not hyperbolic that the title addresses Hickman as “The NEXT SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER”.

Watch Hickman work and imagine him doing this alongside another premier set of guards in the fall.

Just a mixtape but damn this kid does things Askew could only dream about.
Very excited to see him in blue.

He looks great! Love his spin move. Who was that little white dude at the 1:30 mark? I didn’t see that coming! lol

He looks like a high-level passer, very shifty and crafty with his movement.

Concerns: can he finish at the rim? Seems to do a lot of interior passing, which isn’t a bad thing, but hopefully that’s not indicative of a lack of confidence to finish through contact. Also, has a decent shot, would like to see him work on his 3-pt shot.

Kids’got game, and the steps to go from very good to elite don’t look like they’d be out of his element.

A PG who can pass like he can goes a long way toward fixing the problem of other guys not moving without the ball. I really like the SGA comparisons.

Handles, quick twitch and already passes like an NBA point guard and its not like he isn’t playing against elite talent. Give him some shooters and finishers to drop those dimes to and watch out for our offense. Plus the length on defense. I’m all about this kid.
