Disappointing to hear that Matt Bevin didn’t want to do a show with you.

I read on here that Calipari isn’t a very good coach. Does that mean I believe it?

no one [with half a brain] explicitly said this team is better without alex. we were starting to come together and playing to our full potential and coincidentally it was when alex was not playing. that being said, alex was the perfect player to attack bama’s defense because they lack a post presence. we’ll see if he can continue that production.

    • Realme
      10:17 am February 25, 2016 Permalink

The really dumb thing about people who did think that (several callers said it on the various shows), is that the team was starting to click before Alex got hurt. It wasn’t even a reasonable correlation, let alone actually leaping to that conclusion. Two things can happen without one causing the other.

Unfortunately, the brain percentage requirements to post or call in hover around 10% of a brain. So we did have way too many people suggesting we were better off without Alex which is untrue, unfortunate and just plain wrong.

I don’t hate either JayZ or Drake. The opinions of younger fans or players do not make their opinion true. Of course my opinion is just as valid (or invalid) . Sean Connery 》》 Bill Murray. We could do this all day. It’s just opinion. Jay Z and Drake are far more relevant today but Murray is far cooler. 😊

Ukjaybrat solved the issue! Said much better than I did or could. Murray has a line in Stripes ” Now I want to party with this guy…” I would want to party with Murray and play Golf with Drake because I might have a chance on the links against Drake, but Murray would put me to shame even if I was spotted 60 strokes.
      Great comment ukjaybrat.

Imagine how good this team will be when it finally gets Poythress and new-improved Willis both playing at the same. I’m looking forward to the stretch now.

    • ukjaybrat
      10:34 am February 25, 2016 Permalink

poythress had a hard time getting in gear early in the season because we weren’t knocking down threes. we were really bad at it. we started hitting them around the time he got hurt. now that ulis and murray are hitting them regularly with the addition of Willis, that has opened up the paint and poythress will get an increase in his looks.

That’s a really good point, UKJAY. Alex is naturally going to be more productive when a defense can’t sag off the shooters.
Gonna be great to have both 4’s, and be able to play either style!

During the second half of the Bama game, coming back from a timeout, they showed a montage of all of Alex’s scores in the game. It really showcased his athleticism, agility, and offensive repertoire. When Alex plays like that, it’s beautiful to watch.

Alex played good against Alabama both times. We need him every game only if he gets 2 or 3 rebounds because of his length. His length stops lots of otherwise easy baskets.

I like the elevated floor idea with the “mosh pit” of students around the floor. I also liked the way Pitt’s stadium is set up – they have a row of luxury suites right down near the floor with grandstands of students on top of them. That would keep the rich old folks happy and give the students a place to be rowdy right behind them.

  8. RealCatsFan
    10:59 am February 25, 2016 Permalink

Matt has a good point about the crowd at Rupp. Maybe it’s because as a fan base we are spoiled with all the success, or maybe it is because a majority of the fans (especially in the lower arena) are season ticket holders who have become a bit jaded through the years. However, if it is because we were spoiled by success, you would expect the first couple of years under Cal our crowds would have been insane after suffering through the Tubby years.

I think the crowds outside of Rupp are usually a lot livelier. NCAA tournament games where we have a majority of fans are usually very rowdy, and I attended the SEC Tourney at Bridgestone Arena last year and the 90% UK crowd in there was great. Kind of supports the fact that the problem at Rupp may be with the regulars. Even the student section seems sedate compared to other schools.

    • J-Dub421
      11:10 am February 25, 2016 Permalink

I’ve gone the last 2 times we’ve played our NCAA opening rounds at the Yum Center. The crowd was 85% or more UK fans and very rowdy and loud.

  9. Realme
    11:00 am February 25, 2016 Permalink

The people in the seats closest to the action in Rupp are overall too entitled to do anything but lightly cheer if the team does extraordinary things to impress them. Then they leave early.
There are plenty of sections that are amazing mini-atmospheres, they’re just too far away from the court.
As far as the students, they do okay, but they could do a lot better.

  10. RealCatsFan
    11:01 am February 25, 2016 Permalink

To be fair about Rupp, if you were attending an “average” game at a lot of these arenas it probably wouldn’t be that much better than Rupp. We are seeing a lot of the other fans for the really big games as well.

    • CATandMONKEY
      11:06 am February 25, 2016 Permalink

Good point, Very true, what we see at other arenas is difficult to compare to games at Rupp. How many times are we an underdog at Rupp? Florida game when they came in as the #1 team was insane. (2003?)
That remains one of the classic beatdowns of all time.

    • J-Dub421

The good thing about UK’s current style of play emerging late is that most of the conventional wisdom to beat us is now out the window. Rough play inside to make our bigs back down? We’ve found guys who can score inside anyway. Sag inside and force Kentucky to beat you from outside? We’ve got three legitimate outside shooters now. Matchup zones? We learned how to play against them. “Freak defenses” like the triangle and two? We’ve learned how to attack them. There’s no longer a “just do this” defense that everyone uses against us because we’re a different team now. That was an advantage that aided us greatly in the Brandon Knight season and the Twins first year because in the tourney, teams not as familiar with us didn’t know quite how to handle us. They would fall back on strategies that we had already learned to beat, and that may happen again this year. If we make it back to the final four, that will be a key help for us.

No it is about security, and we needed a wall long ago and the military to help seal our porous southern border. How about you j-dub offering your home and neighborhood to the Syria refugees, seeing how the whole Syrian mess is your president’s fault you should be more than happy to help him out.
