Since Freddie Maggard became a KSR football correspondent last May, the football knowledge of the average KSR reader has grown tremendously. The only area that has seen more growth? Freddie’s use and knowledge of technology. A man that used to sit in his car to listen to KSR now has an iHeart Radio app and an iTunes playlist filled with university fight songs and Eric B. and Rakim. Yesterday he took his greatest step forward — he used Periscope.
Pride and joy filled my heart when I saw a Tweet from Freddie saying, “Live on Periscope.” Not only did he successfully use the broadcast app, he didn’t call it “Telescope,” nor did he take 30 seconds to turn it off (I’m looking at you, Ryan Lemond). There were many fantastic revelations — Freddie’s favorite Spongebob character — and a shockingly low number of Versailles’ Krogers mentions (maybe less than five).
I suggest you check it out before it’s gone forever. Don’t fret too much though — he’s promised to make this a weekly tradition.
12 Hours Away from a Kentucky/Missourri Tip-Off
Kentucky is an astounding 20.5-point favorite over the Missouri Tigers tonight at Rupp Arena. That’s a LOT of points to win a game by, especially by Vegas’ standards. Mizzou is tied for dead last in the conference, along with Miss. State, after losing four in a row by an average of 14.5 points per game. To be fair, their last win was against the same Auburn team that handed UK their last loss.
Mike Morgan and Joe Dean Jr. have the call on the SEC Network at 9:00.
Archie Goodwin had a Career Night
The Phoenix Sun hit a couple of career-highs with 26 points and 6 assists. His fellow Wildcat running-mate, Devin Booker, also had a carer-high in assists with 6 (he also had 12 points). Despite their best efforts, the Suns still lost to the lowly 76ers. Nerlens Noel scored 14, with 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals.
Willie Cauley-Stein had an OK Start to Last Night’s Game
Just a pair of alley-oops, no big deal.
But after a quick 8 points, WCS would only finish with 12 and 7. Even worse, Boogie was held to just 17 points in a loss to the Blazers, halting his amazing point-scoring streak.
Matt Bevin Proposes Wildcat Coal Lodge Renovation
In last night’s budget proposal, Matt Bevin included $21 million to be set aside for an expansion of the Wildcat Coal Lodge. Even though it’s only been open for four years, UK’s official Twitter account explained to Matt that the expansion will primarily be used as a North Campus dining facility for athletes after the removal of Blazer Hall (which is unfortunate, because that used to be the best buffet on campus.).
Bevin also proposed $60 million in state bonds to be set aside as a part of a $250 million Lexington Convention Center overhaul.
One Week till National Signing Day
A few last minute additions are inevitable, stay tuned.
