The No. 1 player in the class of 2018 (according to Rivals) is still strongly considering the Cats and it’s clear to see why he remains near the top of UK’s priority list. Vernon Carey is considering Duke, Michigan State, UK, North Carolina and Miami. Expect UK to land an official visit from the 6-foot-10, 245-pound power forward in the fall.
That visit will be incredibly important. Things have been quieter lately regarding UK and Carey. A few weeks ago the Cats seemed to be in a good spot, and that may still be the case but I just haven’t heard his name mentioned lately. Duke has always been perceived by some experts to be the leader, and there’s been plenty of Miami buzz, too.
You shouldn’t be ready to concede Carey to Duke or Miami just yet. He’s UK’s second biggest target in the class and Calipari has been on fire as of late. There are several bigs in the class that may be more skilled than Carey, but no one can match Carey’s power on the block. He will remind some fans of DeMarcus Cousins and that’s a target worth fighting for in the class of 2019 (or any class).
