Update: Reds Will NOT Return to Action on Monday

Despite just having one positive Coronavirus test, Major League Baseball is choosing to not have the Reds and Pirates play a makeup double-header on Monday. News broke late Friday night after the Reds 8-1 win against the Pirates that a player within the organization had tested positive. That positive test prompted Saturday and Sunday’s games against Pittsburgh to be postponed.

Unlike what happened with Matt Davidson at the beginning of the season, this is not believed to be a false positive test, making it the first case for the Reds this season on a league-administered test. Davidson tested negative for Coronavirus on consecutive days after his initial positive.

No other Reds players have tested positive this weekend, but due to the potential incubation period the league has decided to remain cautious about allowing Cincinnati to return to action. Both the Reds and the Pirates had a scheduled off day tomorrow evening making it possible for them to play a double-header to make up the missed weekend games, but that will not happen.

The Reds are scheduled to travel to Kansas City on Tuesday for a two-game series against the Royals. The status of that trip is still uncertain. The Pirates however will play as scheduled on Tuesday evening as they host the Cleveland Indians.

Pittsburgh will come to Cincinnati once again on September 14-16 so two of those games will likely become seven inning doubleheaders. There is no mutual off day around that series between the two clubs.
