UofL President issues statement supporting Tom Jurich

University of Louisville President James Ramsey issued a statement on his basketball program’s scandal this afternoon. In it, he said he fully supports Tom Jurich because Jurich has served as Athletic Director of “an exemplary program” for the last 18 years. Ha!

As we stated last week, when we learned of the allegations toward our men’s basketball team, we immediately hired Chuck Smrt of the Compliance Group to undertake a complete and thorough investigation of the alleged misconduct. Chuck advised us that we should also report these allegations to the NCAA so they could join our investigation.

For the past 18 years, Tom Jurich has served as Athletic Director of an exemplary program at UofL. I fully support Tom as we work to identify the facts in this situation, and that is what we are doing. Tom and I are committed to the values that are fundamental to the success of Cardinal athletics.

As I stated in the recent State of the University address, it is important that the university–all of us–stay focused on our day-to-day work of providing our outstanding student with a world-class education. The investigation of the allegations may take time and we must, as one university, continue doing the work we do to move our university and our community forward.

I can’t take him seriously with that hair.

Gene Keady finally abandoned that awful comb-over after he got married and his new wife made him do it. After all that hair and shellac was lifted, they found squamous cell carcinoma hiding under there, and this move may have saved his life. Proof positive that comb-overs kill.

    Dear Mr. Jurich,
May we call you “Tom”? The search committee for a new AD at the University of Texas reviewed your application submission. You have quite the impressive resume. To develop a city university into a regional power is amazing. The fact that you were able to convince the ACC to lower their standards to allow you into their conference says a lot about your powers of persuasion. Your stranglehold..uh I mean…management of the local sports media is the envy of all.
However, the firm we hired to do a background search has identified multiple red flags that indicate your hiring choices are somewhat questionable and your ethics are not in line with our minimal expectations. I’m sorry to say we must reject your application at this time. Best of luck in your future endeavors,
    Yours truly,
    Gregory L. Fenves
    President, University of Texas

PS. Charlie Strong may be available by the end of the season if you are interested in rehiring another football coach.

In some ways you are right, the entertainment coming out of that athletics department is better than 99% of television to watch. However, this is real (sometimes hilariously real) and ultimately an embarrassment to our state because they are a public school. I hope this is a wake up call for them and they finally clean some of this mess up. It’s gotten a bit ridiculous how blatantly dirty they are, even for them.

    From CBSSports.com:

“University of Louisville president James Ramsey released a 174-word statement on Thursday, as he met with the school’s Board of Trustees.

Two words not included in his statement: Rick Pitino…”

“…Ramsey is public in his “support” of longtime Cardinals athletic director Tom Jurich. But Pitino, a Hall-of-Fame coach, is not even referenced in the statement, let alone directly named.”

you know i think we (i included) are reading too much into this.
The president’s job is to hire the AD, it’s the AD’s job to hire coaches. If the president has backed Tom, I think that infers that he has Pitino’s back too. would you agree?
