UK Track Star Sets NCAA Championships Record

UK Athletics

The University of Kentucky can still lay claim to the title, “Hurdle U.”

On the first day the Outdoor NCAA Championships in Austin, UK hurdler Daniel Roberts set a new championship meet record. In the 110-meter hurdle semifinals, Roberts sprinted to a time of 13.06.

It’s a new personal best for Roberts and only .06 behind the oldest collegiate track and field record. In 1979 Renaldo Nehemiah clocked in at 13.00.

This year Roberts has recorded three of the top ten times in the history of the NCAA event. He is on the watch list for The Bowerman Award, the Heisman of collegiate track and field.

Roberts will run in the 110H finals Friday at 9:12 p.m. ET on ESPN3. You can watch the UK women’s track and field team tonight beginning in the 4×100 relay at 8:02 p.m. ET.

He even slowed down at the finish line! I’m thinking if he powered through, he would have improved by at least .06!
