In both Friday and Saturday’s games, the Wildcats struck first. This afternoon RBI single from Grace Baalman allowed Humes to score after the pitcher hit her first career triple to get to third.
The ‘Cats tacked on two more in the top of the third after a wild pitch and a SAC fly, making it a 3-0 ball game. The Aggies got one back in the bottom of the inning though, cutting the Wildcat lead to two.
Another wild pitch scored Vanessa Nesby in the sixth. A homer from Miranda Stoddard in the seventh put a big blue emphasis on things. It was Stoddard’s seventh of the season, giving Kentucky a comfortable four-run lead. The ‘Cats would go on to load the bases in the inning, but couldn’t tack on anymore. The final score was 5-1, moving Kentucky to 35-12 on the season (10-11 SEC).
Humes has been phenomenal from the mound this weekend in Texas. On Friday night, Humes threw 11 strikeouts. Last night, she came in to relieve Baalman in the top of the sixth, pitching the final 1.2 innings in a close 2-1 extra-inning win.
Today, Humes added another win to her impressive resume. She ended the game allowing only three hits and striking out six Aggie batters, including the final out of the game. The senior now has 17 wins on the season.
She has also been getting it done on the other side of the ball, too. Humes hit a solo homer during Friday’s game to boost the ‘Cats to a win. Last night, she doubled into the gap in right-center to score Erin Coffel, the game-winning run. Tonight, she went 2-3 at the plate with one run.
The ‘Cats will return to Lexington this weekend for a series with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Game 1 of the series is on Friday at 6 p.m. and will air on SEC Network+. This is their final series of the season before the SEC Softball Tournament begins in Tuscaloosa.
