UK makes Aidan Igiehon’s final four but the Cats haven’t offered

Well, this has been a busier Tuesday night than I anticipated. There were reports that UK had offered five-star forward Aidan Igiehon’s, and that the offer actually occurred on Sunday.

I had reported earlier this month that UK wasn’t recruiting Igiehon, so this seemed problematic. It seems I was wrong and UK is still keeping the line of communication open with Igiehon, but the Cats have not offered and those earlier reports were incorrect.

However, the Irishman feels strongly enough about the Cats to include them in his final four. Kentucky joined Louisville, Oregon and St. John’s as the final contenders for his services.

The 6-foot-8, 215-pound Igiehon has not visited UK, but per his AAU coach Kentucky assistant Tony Barbee did talk to him on Sunday about setting up a visit and a possible in-home visit next month. No dates were set, which is interesting.

UK has offered three bigs in 2019 (James Wiseman, Vernon Carey and Matthew Hurt). An offer is coming for Oscar Tshiebwe, whether during John Calipari’s in-home visit or when he officially visits UK, so he would make four.

The Cats could lose E.J. Montgomery, Nick Richards and P.J. Washington as Reid Travis will exhaust his eligibility after the season, so there’s a need for bigs for 2019 and beyond.

I still don’t think that Igiehon ends up at UK, but it seems Tony Barbee is a big fan of this kid. There’s no denying Igiehon’s athletic ability and he would be a nice fit with Calipari’s style, but his ball skills are behind and other bigs are more advanced offensively. But again, there seems to be a need for frontcourt players.

You gotta love the wild world of recruiting. I hate sharing something that turns out being inaccurate with you folks, and while the Cats still haven’t offered, it’s clear that UK is still in the picture. We’ve seen recruits in the past sometimes keep UK to make their list look better, and the Cats are easily the most prestigious program on his list, but Barbee did talk to him on Sunday, so me saying UK isn’t recruiting him was wrong and I apologize. I’ll talk more about this on tomorrow’s Hardly Committed podcast.

Depends on his expectations. If he wants to come compete and is ok with the journey, then take a two year guy. Clearly some level of experience helps a team succeed.

Good tape. Definitely athletic enough. Has good form. Good hands. Question marks would be dribbling, long range shooting, and understanding of the game.

Love his personality. Very articulate. Seems like he’d be the perfect fit socially here. Would blend in and enjoy being the superstar while on campus.

He’s the appreciative type. Family oriented.

He could have a huge upside, kinda like Nick Richards.

Hope we get him. Could use some Irish luck for #10!

This kid is a monster and the centerpiece of Louisville making it back to relevancy. Two very good reasons to offer this young man and let him develop into a more athletic Bam Adebayo.

What this tells me is that this kid wants to come to UK and wants to give them every opportunity to offer. Probably a spring sign.

Same situation with Tshiebwe. We made his final 4 with no scholarship offer. I would rather have top-20 talent that WANTS to play for UK over a top-5 prospect that is wishy-washy in their decision (e.g. Wiseman). Come on down, young man!
